Can't help but look forward to the follow up programme "Nightmare Landlords from Hell!", giving detailed advice for tenants who accidentally rented from the wrong landlord.

Although, on a serious note, I do agree that Housing Benefit should be paid directly to the landlord if that's what the tenant or landlord wish for. It would make it a damn site easier to get people into private rented accommodation if the landlord can be promised getting the HB payment direct.

Edit: Lily's figures make much more sense but I'm still going to leave my figures up for speculation value :)

I think I have worked out how she has calculated the £4,00 in rent - popped into my head just now.

June, no rent received £1,235 owed. Not received 66 days later so £990 penalty for late payment
July, no not recived £1,235 added to bill. Not recived 36 days later so another £540 added for late payment
August no rent received ~£250 added to bill. Not received for 6 days so ANOTHER £90 added for late payment.

£4,340 - 'over' £4,000. I believe she may have been charging £15 a day for EACH rent payment missed, rather than a total £15 for being in arrears.
That's equivalent to 443% per annum.

Total late payment fee ~= £1620
    Total rent arrears ~= £2720

Well worked out, but I think it's more simple than that......

Think of a newsworthy number and add £500 every third news report.

So now the landlord tries to rip off the tenant & seems oblivious to it.

I couldn't possibly comment on Suzys motives, but to portray yourself as a victim when charging over 400%apr is a bit rich!

Fair point re the intrest rate. I used a rather rudimentary system to be honest - just calculated the total cost of the £15's and used a loan calculator to add it as a final payment.

To be honest, I think she was in a corner as the arrears question wouldn't go away, so she came up with this £15 "penalty". We haven't seen the T/agg to verify anything yet.
  • Ooh, been banned from the facebook page for asking how much money is still owed once the daily penalty fees were removed. I asked politely too.

Clearly not, as Jeremy says that ABUSIVE posts are deleted... Naughty, naughty you. Get on the naughty step and think about what you have done.
