Bulk buying bread flour?

I just bulk buy from a supermarket and then keep it in the freezer until I need it - if you have some websites that you could share that might help me cut the cost I'd be grateful.

Janie are you wanting to buy in bulk to save money or just so that you have a supply of flour always at hand? Do you want organic flour?

When I looked into this the only suppliers I could find were specialist organic mills. Very nice flour to be sure but way more expensive than supermarket flour even when bought in bulk.

I still find supermarket own brand flour the cheapest option, I always get good results and I make sure I have at least one unopened 1.5kg bag of each of the flours I use in my cupboard. This means I buy a couple of bags most weeks.

We have the space for it and after tasting a wholemeal loaf the other day, it was far superior to both bakery bread and a supermarket loaf. so I guess all of the options .
the freebake one looks good money wise but the specialist mills ones sound good.
we dont have a car, so this would be better than lugging it home .

I found the same thing as Thriftlady, you can buy beautiful flours from mills but they are mainly expensive because they are often "artisan" flour. I buy wholemeal flour from the supermarkets, I keep an eye on the prices and buy in bulk when I find something cheap.

We still have white flour in the cupboard from six months or so ago when Tesco had it on special and I've just discovered Tesco have Hovis wholemeal breadflour for 51p for 1.5kg, I think someone posted this recently but I assumed that our small rip off Tesco wouldn't have it. I've just bought 8 bags and its dated March 2010.

Have you tried home shopping for large items so that the nice man brings it to your door?

I keep a beady eye out for flour at the local B&M store. Last lot they had in was Allinsons Grain and Seeds flour at 29p for a kilo bag, both the wholemeal and white flour varieties. I use this sort of thing 50:50 with supermarket own brand flour, for a bit of variety. You have to watch the date stamps at B&M and the latest batch was bb Dec 2009, but it's still a very good deal.

I have ordered 5 bags of the hovis wholemeal flour from tescos ,
I booked a cheap delivery slot for tues night for 3 quid , its 25 quid min spend so got bulk , longlife milk , dog food and cat food and a couple of bits , got it bang on at 25 quid , plus 3 quid for delivery .
got 2 packs of Wholemeal flour in the larder allready , so should keep me going for a while

I'm making so much bread at the moment that I wondered if anyone knows of a good supplier of flour which comes in a big bag!!!! I get through a normal size one in no time at all.
