I once watched a seasoned glass cutter, making a sealed unit for a vent axia fan, on a bench, So the 400 x 500 glass sheet x 2 was cut, then he had to cut two holes, same size, same place ........ 6 sheets of glass later he had ONE sheet with a hole, and a pile of glass., another 4 sheets and he had two holey sheets, butthe holes did not match... I left due to things being thrown around.
For a glazier to do this on site..... Good Luck, and make him guarantee a replacement.:money:

Here by lies the reason for charging 150 GBP for the job. Wen I had my cat flap fitted 8 yrs ago I thought 140 was a lot of money , since then I have canged the cat flap twice but te glass is still fine.
  • Yes it can be done ,but the complete unit (glazed unit ) will have to be replaced with K glass Toughened . will cost £200 -300 fitted ,
and will have to be measured before hand dont pay no more than £300..

  • Another glowing recommendation for Jacksons and Julian Walsh! The work I requested was completed on date and I am delighted with the result. Customer service and workmanship was excellent. Julian is knowledgeable, punctual and kept in touch throughout, a real gentleman. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

I do know the current cost of the energy surcharge and as long as you have the glass size you can also put a price on the glass I also cut the glass and also the holes in the glass myself and get them sent to be toughened There is always a chance of them breaking. I have been making double glazed units along time now and it is true there aren't many people that do this but I do.
  • Looking for a supplier in London/Surrey area. I need a replacement panel with hole for cat flap. Happy to fit myself if it can be delivered or fully fitted. Thanks in advance

  • Any of the people in the know on here have any idea of a price for a cat flap in double glazing for a french door. Its a full size panel so im expecting it will probably be too expensive. May have to look at going through the wall. Its a brand new house and not moved in yet so dont know exact size. Thanks for any info

I would say upto £250 fitted depending on size of glass and if it needs to be k-glass this also would be toughend glass aswell.
  • Just thought I'd share my personal experience...

I came across this thread in November last year and after getting local quotes for the supply and installation of double glazed pane with a cat flap for my conservatory. I contacted Julian Walsh from Jacksons Joinery in Manchester who quoted me £117 for the 700 x 400 double glazed pane. I supplied the cat flap and they fitted it. The trip from North Wiltshire a week and a half later was well worth it. Nothing but praise for Julian and his Team - prompt service and quality work. :T

You do need to supply them a very exact measurement for the pane though (at least thickness wise). I tried to take a short-cut by measuring the thickness with the pane in place and got it wrong - just as well Julian spotted this out when I placed the order saving me considerable trouble.

Unfortunately I can't post links or embed a photo I took of the pane in place. If interested you can view it by appending the letter h to the following text block and psting it in your browser address bar:

So, all in all I highly recommend them.
