"Quite a few" is a long way from "Everyone".
Most people can't change the hours they work because they have to be at work to fit in with other things. A person paid to serve customers in a shop that is open from 8.00am can't change her hours to start a 9.00am and leave the shop unattended for the first hour.
A person working in a factory that operates a shift system can come in an hour later, because their job would not get done for an hour, and at the end of the day their shift would overlap the next shift. So at the beginning of the day their would be nobody doing the work for an hour, and at the end of the first shift their would be two people trying to do the same thing in the same place at the same time.
The fact is, most employers employ people because they want a person in a certain place, doing a certain job at a certain time. There aren't that many jobs where your employer can say "Yes, come in at anytime, we don't care when you do the work as long as it's done at sometime".0 -
Yeah and for one, most mums I know either work in jobs which start later anyway because they take the kids to school, so they cant do a job which starts at 8 or 9 in the morning anyway - what time does school start round your way? Also I see mums who get gran or a relative to drop of the kids at school round here, Also more people are employed here by public sector than anyone else and most of the higher grade jobs are on flexitime. The truth may be out there, but the lies are inside your head. Exactly Paris is only about 9 minutes ahead of Greenwich.
Although I think Paris is the World time centre as we couldn't afford the new Atomic clocks but that may have changed as I think UTC is the average of several clocks around the world due to Einsteins relativity pointing out that height & gravity variations changed time."Do good by stealth, and blush to find it fame." ~ Alexander Pope0 -

Try buying milk in a petrol station shop and look at the label - that bottle you thought was 2 pints is a litre and the one you thought was 4 pints is 2 litres.Make £2025 in 2025

I believe it would be better for British business, travel etc if we were in the same time zone as the rest of our major trading partners in Europe. We can never get anywhere near the states so it would be better to be the same as one of them.
The best way we could do this is to trial it for one year, it does not stop us reverting back to changing the clocks back if we really want to.
I agree; we ARE in the EU so we should synchronise0 -

Nice to see the government working hard to make the country better, tackling the issues that matter. :think:0

Also I might add that this would have very little effect on SAD sufferers. It won’t change the low levels of sun just change the times it’s there. Even if you spent this time outside soaking it all in you’ll still feel very glum.0

To go on to double summertime would mean we'd never have a coincident noon which we at least have in winter.
Navigation is locked to GMT/Zulu/UTC none of which would coincide with our time, not that it matters to non-navigators I suppose.
It's the rest of the EU that should change to our time based upon noon at the Prime meridian"Do good by stealth, and blush to find it fame." ~ Alexander Pope0
