MSE News: Wheel clamping to be banned on private land

So because somebody passed their test in WW2 in a tank, that makes their opinion right and everybody else wrong?
I think he was just responding to you thinking that everyone on here has had parking tickets.
Look, what they were doing was wrong. I don't condone people who park on private land but neither do I agree with clampers charging over the odds for what is quite often a mistake.
Remember, we are on MSE. People have been battling these guys for years.0 -
So if I wanted to, could I go park on a persons home drive way if they leave the gate open?
I fail to see any difference between doing this, and a person parking on any other private land they don't have permission.
Now I may be wrong or maybe it's changed but, incredibly, it is not illegal to park in front of someone's driveway so long as there is no car parked upon it.
Don't know about the reliability of this. It was posted on a legal bulletin board by someone who said they were a lawyer. Might be a load of boll0cks but it wouldn't surprise me.0 -

I think that is wrong, because you would be blocking access to/from.
I don't know the legalities, but you could probably be towed by the council or police for blocking access.
I was saying to actually park on the drive if they left the gate open.0 -

Were people taking driving test in WW2 tanks in the 60s, what an odd comment.
The reply was in response to your earlier question
"By any chance have all the posters on here been clamped for parking on private land before? "
Therefore it was a perfectly valid post.0 -

Was my reply aimed specifically to that poster and what they had written? It was in general, sorry if it confused you that much.
I thought this thread had changed into some sort of competition of who had been driving the longest without getting a ticket, because of a comment I made.0 -

It opens outwards and you need a clear area for people to exit the building should they have too in an emergency so erecting any sort of barrier is not allowed to preserve the safety of my staff.
What can i do now?Even the Fire service have told us we need a certain area clear to help people escape
Though i agree its an isolated case we have relied on our own clamping & towing firm in the past and we set the charges not them - we have to as its a railway station and we cant have people leaving their cars there all day when the exit could be needed.
Instead of getting rid of them all together they should have set out more stringent rules for them and got local councils to set the prices or something rather then just outlawing them
just my opinion as i want to keep my staff safe
I cannot understand the opening paragraph.
Is the entrance to the car park opposite this fire exit?
How do cars get to the area in front of the door?0 -

Nope it hasn't.
It is still about the banning of scum clampers.0 -

Yes I agree ban the cowboy clampers.
But to call all clampers scum simply because you don't like them is quite bigoted.
Some people are clearly abusing other peoples private property by parking on it without permission, but nobody has called these people scum.0 -

'In front of a driveway' could be different as it could be public highway. In which case the Councils in some areas can put a PCN on for parking adjacent to a dropped kerb.
On a driveway, you are right it's not illegal - but none of us here condone that. It's just a stupid old chestnut of an example trotted out by PPC trolls every time they get a word in on this board.
But how often have you read about people having a stranger parked on their driveway - it's not exactly a common occurence and still won't be! Not only that, the new government have said I think that landowners will be able to ask the Police to remove obstructive vehicles under certain circumstances (not sure how that would work though, imagine if someone had a row with their wife & called thePolice while she was out, to tow her car away off the driveway!).
ANYWAY, THE IMPORTANT THING IS CLAMPING IS BANNED AT LAST!PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

All clampers are cowboy scum. That's definite, you are on your own here if you think otherwise.
Show me an example of a clamping firm doing a service for a non-extortionate sum and only clamping people who the retailer/occupiers have not invited.
There is NO such clamping firm, they all looked for ANY reason to clamp.PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).
