    I've ordered a copy:)
We don't even have takeaways, and I must be one of few people to have never eaten a MacDonalds - I did have one bite, soon after the first branch opened;)
But some of the recipes sound good, and OH and his boys sometimes cook on a Saturday afternoon, so I'm sure there will be lots of things to appeal. Besides, a new cookbook is such a treat, and it will squeeze in somewhere:D

    Hi,

I stumbled across this thread on Friday last week.. ordered the book and it came on Tuesday.

I attempted some of the chinese recipes last night - I wasn't overly impressed...

I cooked the Beef Chow Mein, Sweet and Sour chicken balls, Prawn Toast and Crispy Shredded Chicken.

The 'tastes' were all there, the Chow Mein was nice but for everything that needed to be fried, I'm not sure I used the right oil.

Has anyone else tried any of these? which oil did you use for frying?

    Thanks in advance
  • My copy just arrived yesterday - this morning I made the American Pancakes for breakfast! Yummy - my 2 year old wolfed them down.

I got most of mine from the Chinese supermarket, they're so much cheaper than Tesco etc. 100g bags of spices for 50-60p, I got a 300g bag of the elusive coconut powder for about £1!

I used veg oil too... maybe I should have reduced the cornflour!

how much did you reduce it by? I measured everything spot on by the book... didn't want to get it wrong!! :o

You lot are a bad influence! Just bought this and also the Curry Secret (well one book would be lonely coming all the way from Amazon wouldn't it?). Can't help thinking that Curryqueen's is probably as good as Curry Secret but couldn't resist..... oh dear! But cooking is something that needs to be done every day and anything that inspires is worth the money in my view! Looking forward to receiving them!

I get mine from my local Asian/Halal grocer, they start at around 60p-ish for a 100g bag

also, some supermarkets stock the bags in their ethnic foods section
