ok, after reading all the threads on here I decided to give the book a go. Got it on Weds and today was trial day  Sausage and egg muffins went down a storm with OH, DS and DS's friend for brunch, so far so good :DLamb shish kebabs, spicey chicken wings, white kebab sauce (we don't like the red) and potato wedges tonight! Let me just say if C@rling made kebabs this is what they would taste like :jwedges and sauce were great and the chicken wings were hot hot hot
but sooo tasty. All in all with the price of the book and the ingredients I had to buy, my fakeaway has been a lot cheaper than the equivalent takeaway and that's just one day!! Would love to show you photo's but the food didn't last long enough to get the camera out :rotfl::rotfl:Char Sui pork and fried rice next week methinks.
Big thanks to OP x

It's only a bargain if you were going to buy it anyway!0 -
What's better than one of these Lamb Doner Kebabs?
3 of them of course.
I couldn't see the point of having the oven on for nearly an hour and a half with one in, haven't worked out what else to cook with it yet so I bought 3 packs of lamb mince and made three of them.
We had half of one tonight and the other half will be for lunch tomorrow and I am going to freeze the other two.
What I have done is make up a batch of the spices needed and put it in an empty spice jar, that way I will always know I will have enough ingredients in to make a kebab at short notice.
I will have to get stocked up on the old spices as my oregano seems to be going down rather quickly.0 -
I bought a set of measuring spoons from asda today for 87p..they give exact measurements of 1/4, 1/2, 1/8 and 1 teaspoon and also 1/2 and 1 tablespoon. So now i can't put too much or too less spices in when making the recipes.
I've never had a cook book before and I'm having a great time with this one!!
This week I'm gonna have a go at the chicken korma and skewered chicken satay and chicken balls. And also fish n chips again which went down a treat last week!
Quick question re tartar sauce - do you use pickled gherkins?Officially BR at 2.10pm on 6th May 2009, ED 7th December 2009

Downside to the chicken curry this morning. The place absolutely stinks. Fenugreek leaves were the only ingredient I didn't like the smell of, and it's all I can smell this morning. I've sellotaped the pack and everything. I cooked with back door open, the lot. I've 2 packs of lamb mince left so I'll do as sb44 and get a batch or two of the herb mix ready for quickness for the kebab.
Anyone cooked or partially cooked anything and frozen? I know the sauce can (and is) but I was wondering about the other stuff. The chicken curry I made yesterday was in 3 stages (sauce, marinade, fry and add) so I wondered if, once it was all done it could have been frozen with no effect on the quality.Grocery Challenge M: £450/£425.08 A: £400/£.May -£400/£361 June £380/£230 (pages 18 & 27 explain)0 -

good idea about making up the spice mix in a large batch too :T
if you get your herbs & spices in bags from an Asian grocer or the ethnic food section in the supermarket, you'll save a fortune over those little jars
it might look like you're buying a huge amount, but just decant them into a Lock&Lock or something similar & they'll keep for ages0 -
Well, I bought two packs of Pork Mince yesterday from Sainsburys, £2 each or two for £3.50 (500g packs).
So, I am going to use it all for the Amercan Sausage burgers and freeze them.
I was going to make them up and freeze them raw but have decided to pre cook and freeze, they only take an hour if that to defrost so will save time and I will always have them to hand.
Has anyone made the Banana Muffins yet?0 -
I made the Chili Chicken Chow Mein last night and I used carrot batons cut through to thin them instead of grated carrot stated in the recipe - came out fab! I have also been using a cheap tomato ketchup for going into sauces rather than using heinz.0

can't wait to try the doner & I might try doing 3 myself, good tip

I didn't mix the spice in a large batch but did 3 lots individually as I was making 3 blocks of kebab.
The made up batch was just for one kebab so that I know I have it ready for next time.0 -
Just had the bacon and egg muffin for lunch and it was lovely.
As my husband says, that slice of cheese makes a world of difference, you wouldn't think bacon and egg would have as much flavour without any added sauces etc.0 -
Gosh, am I addicted to this book or what? I can't wait to get back to work for a rest:o
Kebab yesterday (bit for lunch, rest in freezer) and basic curry sauce and chicken curry for tea. Today I've just constructed Koftkas, dough for pitta and southern fried chicken from Lidl chicken legs at £1.72 for 5, split into thighs and drumsticks. Much better bargain than the 2 for £6 in Asda.
So, tea tonight for husband and me is koftka and DS gets the chicken, with leftovers from both for another 2 portions of each. I've still got kebab sauce left over from yesterday.
Am now having a well earned restGrocery Challenge M: £450/£425.08 A: £400/£.May -£400/£361 June £380/£230 (pages 18 & 27 explain)0
