Just had a quick look and sorry there does not appear to be a Nandos recipe.

  • I love the idea of the chilli sauce with chicken mellymoo74 :)

starters and sides to go with the doner kebab, I would always go for poppadoms with spiced onions as they're really easy to prepare and can be made in advance - also i'd do some chicken pakora as a side dish with some house special chilli kebab sauce!

for the Nando's fans, there are two recipes in More Takeaway Secrets which might interest you, Piri Piri Chicken and Mexican Spicy Rice :)

thanks for the comments missjennipenni, I'm delighted that you're interested in the blog! I'm still not sure if i'm allowed to post a link to it on here *eek* but you should be able to find it easily (I hope!) by searching my name or checking my twitter @takeawaysecret :)

So for xmas my B&SIL, Ma & Cousin are all getting copies of the book(s) packaged up in a hamper with the main ingredients. Does anyone know where I can get hold of some cheap empty spice jars?

My grocery bill rose massively when I first got the book because I was stocking the cupboard with all sorts of spices and ingredients that I didn't have in stock. I figure if I buy the big bulk bags of spices I can save them the major expense and cut the overall cost of each present (and maybe even have extra stock for my own cupboard!)

Have you tried the discount / pound shops for small jars? Or perhaps Wilkinsons / Tesco / Asda etc?

Or have a look at wholesale online / eBay?

My local T wasn't very inspiring. The big local A had some jars but they were a bit more expensive than I was hoping to pay. Not sure where the nearest Wilkos is atm - moved house last year and haven't found one here yet! Will hit the £ shops in town next time I get chance to go there to see if they have anything available.
  • So glad that some of you are finding the blog, I definitely didn't want to post the link on here for fear of it breaking forum rules!

When it comes to spice jars, I've found over the years that purchasing jars specifically for spices can be very expensive - for presents and gifts I suppose it'll be important to make them look nice so that'll be unavoidable, for personal use though I have to say that I think the absolute best method of storing spices is to collect empty coffee jars or similar items - with a good scrub or a spin or two in the dishwasher, they make perfect glass jars for spices :)
