hi all, after a day of flying without crashing i have sat me bum down with a cup of tea, and thought i would put a recommendation for this book!

for anyone who likes takeaways this is an absolute gem! the kfc style chicken is damn near spot on, and the tandoori is perfect. the burgers are fab, simple little tips like what condiments to use to get that authentic taste - like gherkins pickled with dill for that maccy d's taste, and non brewed condiment on fish and chips it really is packed with all the favourites! it's got almost all the best takeaway foods from around the world.

i really dont want to sound like a running advert for this but its only £3.97 on amazon! i've had to order it for 4 other people since they see it, now they rave about too!

appologies in advance if i am being a total noob and its something that you all have on your shelves! :D[QUOTE]

Omg I've ordered the book! :D

    Hi,

Hoping someone can help me out please :o My brother has my copy of takeaway secret atm but I was going to make some Big Macs tonight. Could someone please post the recipe for the burger patty only? I don't need anything else because if I mess the sauce up (again, wrong gherkins lol) they'll just have to live with ketchup.

I knew I should of stuck to something I know by heart like the meatball subs instead of promising something I've already failed at, silly me :o

If you have a look on amazon it lets you look at pages in the book. I was able to look at the burger recipe but it doesn't let me copy the text.

have a look here and scroll through http://www.amazon.co.uk/The-Takeaway-Secret-Favourite-Fast-food/dp/0716022354/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1342120946&sr=8-1

Thanks :) I didn't even think of doing that.

In the end I had a brainwave (lol) and downloaded myself a copy to my Kindle. So my brother gets to keep the other copy and theres no chance on earth I can let anyone take my new copy ;)

I made cheese burgers in the end and my son loved them. He said "You know the meatball subs you make that don't really taste like the ones from subway... well the cheeseburgers really really do taste like McD's" So thats a result :T
Even if you stumble, you're still moving forward.

Thanks so much for recommending this book! I bought it and last night OH called from work saying he was tired and wanted a takeaway, so I told him not to bother and by the time he got home I had falafel in HM pitta with HM sauce and salad waiting for him. So much tastier, cheaper and healthier than just buying in!

If anyone is looking for French's mustard for their burgers, it is on special offer at Asda, one pound, normally 1.79 a bottle (my pound sign is on the blink!).

Made the doner kebabs last night, and I've just polished off a sausage & egg muffin. Gonna use the rest of the pork mince to make loads of patties, & freeze them so I can take them out a couple at a time.
I've had the book for a while, the curry recipies are great, but for some reason never done anything else!

I want to make the chicken donner with pitta breads for tonight's meal. However, I'm a bit unsure of the pitta recipe. It doesn't say that they have to be flattened before baking, do you leave them as a ball or flatten them? :o

Also, can anyone tell me if they're better or the same as shop-bought pittas? You can tell I've never made them before!

Has anyone else tried the chicken donner? How did it taste? (sorry for asking so many questions! :o)

I've not made Kenny's pitas, but in the recipe I use they're rolled out into ovals between the 'shape the dough into a ball once again' and 'place the pita breads on to a baking tray'

there's a world of difference between home-made & shop ones, they're well worth the effort :)

sorry I've not tried the chicken recipe, so can't help with that (I've had the book for ages & only ever made the lamb doner :o)

EDIT ... sorry, cross-posted with ifonlyitwaseasier, darn my slow typing

Thanks!! Now I've decided to make nan breads instead of pittas lol. Which ones shall I go for? I'll be making the pitta salad anyway.

    Decisions, decisions :p

(btw I'm new to cooking so this is all very exciting!)

Edit: thank you, swan! shall I go with the pittas after all? (for some reason, I can't see the 'thanks' button on your post)
