Onion powder, used in most of the recipes. Struggling to find some out in the sticks here, i can however find onion granules. look more dense than powder, as you would expect. will it do the same job or should i hold out for some onion powder. not run out yet but want to make sure i have some when i start getting a little low.
thanks you lovely people.
I bought onion powder last year from Sainsburys, if that's any help to you. I looked for ages and wanted it for something or other.TL0 -

I know but i am in the middle of nowhere. I have managed to find a stock if it now, since sending people on missions for me. So hopefully I won't be needing some for a while.

I've had this book for ages and have made the breakfast muffin & the easy chocolate cheesecake but have never got round to making anything else!
After re-reading this thread I'm re-inspired (sp?!) I'm just in the process of making the pitta bread (to go with the hummus I made this morning). Tomorrow I'm planning on making the doner kebab, naan bread & wedges.
Nom nom nom!! :TMarried my wonderful husband February 2013!:happyhearI want to wear my beautiful wedding dress everyday- it would make shopping so much more fun, I mean, people go shopping in their pyjamas these days.......Must STOP spending!!!Proud to be dealing with my debts!0 -
I made the doner today, after reading all the posts on here saying how yummy it was. I'm a bit embarrassed to say I've never actually had a takeaway kebab
but if they taste like the one I made then I have obviously been missing something in my life!

This book is worth every penny, no more expensive take aways or having to worry about possible food poisoning and so on. Both my partner and son love the results so far.
I was lucky enough to find that the local Asda stocked all the things I need for the "Southern Fried Chicken" (kfc, be honest lol). I've made it a few times and found a few tweeks were needed:
1.If you use cheap eggs there is rarely a need to water it down with milk/water
2.If using free range organic type eggs it will need a small splash of milk as otherwise the egg sometimes just runs off the chicken leaving it dry in places (it's to do with the 'thickness' of the egg)
3. I've found it's best to be 'generous' with the spices, my teaspoons are rather shallow so I make it a good heaped one/half.
4.Half a teaspoon of mild chilli powder won't add any real heat (I can't stand stronge chilli) but seems to give it a more 'KFC' flavour.
I cooked it a few times and although it was good, it was missing something, the chilli powder added that 'extra' something.
I'm still tinkering with it, I use skinless chicken breast cut into smaller fillets, and I'm working on a batter to try and get that extra crispy coating figured out.~"I don't cook so much since we moved out of reality...."~0 -
I made a couple of the curry recipes and they were barely average. I take it the doner kebab is the one to go for, any others before I give up on it?0

The 'southern Fried Chicken' is a good one with the tweeks I mentioned in the post above yours. Not tried it with chicken legs/wings/so on.
I don't own a deep fat fryer, it turns out fine using a normal (non-stick) frying pan.~"I don't cook so much since we moved out of reality...."~0 -
The garlic bread is a big favourite in our house. The wedges are pretty good too.0
