We had a 'takeaway' curry tonight - Basic chicken curry, dal and naan bread - and DH was gobsmacked by how much like a real takeaway this was. I added some nigella seeds to the naan dough, and cooked them on my planc (welsh bakestone) and they looked and tasted exactly like the ones we get from the curryhouse (perhaps not so big?).

I had some cooked potatoes and chickpeas, rescued from a disasterous attempt to make chole (chickpea masalla) and just added some of the base curry sauce to it and heated it up, made a delicious side dish.

I made the curry from two chicken breasts taken off of an Aldi FR chook, cost @ £2.75 - everything else was from my storecupboard., I estimate no more than £4 for a blowout curry for two, with some left over to freeze!

Buried somewhere in this thread, someone posted a link to thespiceworks ebay shop. I bought my onion powder from them, very good price, free postage and came really quickly. If you want larger quantities of spices they are ideal.

i ordered this on wednesday at £3.66 with free delivery from amazon and i got it today! me and my mates are now planning a "takeaway-night-in" in the very near future.

i love love love how its all done for a single person instead of making loads and either eating for days or trying to find room in the freezer lol.

    cant wait to try it!

I bought mine on eBay - lasting for ages, is a good amount. I just decanted it into a screw top jar.

I think I bought my first lot in Sainsburys then I found a health food shop that sells spices in large bags so bought from there.

The only thing with onion powder is it tends to go hard, even if sealed.

You may after a while need to make it into a powder again, just use the end of a rolling pin etc unless you have a mortar and pestle.

    ;)

You have just reminded me that I haven't made the pork patties for a while and I have to test my new burger press that arrived last week. :D

Well, I tested it tonight as I made some of the patties but used minced turkey instead of pork.

I cooked one just to try and it was very nice, a bit more moist than the pork ones.

I will see what response I get tomorrow when I use these instead of pork in the muffin etc.

I used dried onion and blended it to a powder, before I managed to find onion powder with the herbs and spices.
