sb I have no idea about takeaway kebabs but a nicer version surely must be to use shredded meat - possibly from lo joints - no idea as I have never had a kebab in my life nor do I know anyone who has- they always look gross to me.. shredded meat and shredded salad doesnt need a recipe does it?

alternately there is this one found online for reformed minced meat

I guess it's down to personal taste, you could make a kebab with shredded meat and salad or the one in the link you provided but it wouldn't be the same as a takeaway kebab. This book specifically replicates food you get from a takeaway.

I'm fussy with food and I've never had a takeaway kebab because I don't know what's in the meat but if I make it myself I know exactly what's in it and according to my DH (who has eaten takeaway kebabs) it tastes just like the "real" thing.

For people who would normally buy a takeaway or others who like takeaway food but can't afford it, spending less than £4 on the book and making it themselves is a bargain. We like Indian takeaway food but for the 3 of us it would cost at least £15 for a basic curry, thanks to the book I can now make a takeaway curry (including naan bread & sundries) for a few pounds. And it's healthier because it's not floating in ghee.

You can probably find other cookbooks with similar recipes but I've been unable to find anything that re-creates takeaway food so authentically.

Neither have I. It's been a consistently successful book in this house.

    /QUOTE]

Some of them do :D and those that look ok have quite a bit of fat in them.

By cooking them this way ie from the recipe in the book you hardly get any fat as it all drains off in the oven.

Basically once cooked it resembles a meatloaf but slice it thinly and it transforms into a kebab!

My mother in law is a bit of a food snob and wouldn't dream of eating a kebab, however, I cooked this as a surprise and she wants me to make it again when she visits next. ;)

Has anyone found any Sweet Paprika anywhere on the high street?

I have tried Tesco and Sainsburys along with health food shops but no joy.

I don't really want to order one item online (I have and can get all of the other spices) as I begrudge paying over the odds postage for an item that weighs a few grams!

    hi sb :)

I think sweet paprika is just the ordinary kind you'll find on sale, as opposed to hot or bittersweet, but better quality stuff will be nicer

what's the recipe it's being used in? I'lll take a look ... I've only ever made the Doner :o

Yeah, sweet paprika is just the normal one...they just don't seem to put the word 'sweet' on the packaging. It's not that it's actually sweet, it's just not hot!!

it's certainly what I've always used when a recipe calls for sweet paprika, I'm currently loving the paprika you get in those little rectangular tins, it's got a fabulous flavour :)

    Hi Swan!

I have just waded my way through the book and I can't find it!

I think it must have been in a recipe I found at www.allrecipes.com or https://www.food.com .

    :o

Oh well, at least I know sweet paprika is normal (wish I was! :D) and I don't need to buy any now.

    :rotfl:

    Thanks for educating me folks.

    ;)

oh sb, sorry but, ha ha :rotfl:

I do that kind of thing all the time with my recipe books, it's gotten so bad I've been putting 'my' recipes on a blog so I don't have to keep looking though books when I want to find something again :o

bonus is I don't have to email recipes to the kids any more ;)
