ok.. i'm sold on the book but this is probably a really stupid question but, as a weightwatcher, is everything sooo high in fat and kcals that i would not be able to touch it?

I've just got the book and not had the chance to make anything from it yet, but from the look of it I would say not. (Other people will be back to correct me if I'm wrong, I'm sure.) I think a lot of the calories from takeaways come from the fact that they are fried, but I'm looking forward to making the Southern Fried Chicken using all the herbs/spices etc., but grilling it instead of frying it. Chicken breast + herbs and spices + no fat = pretty good, no?

My OH's not one for cooking and i'm not sure hes ever touched a cookery book in his life, but last night i came home after being out all day, walked into the kitchen and found him with a mixing bowl out following a recipe from the book!!

He made the southern fried chicken and it was very nice indeed.

Does anyone have any sort of recipe for the sauce that kfc use in one of their burgers.. its apparently only slightly hot? Does anyone know of one? That would certainly make a certain man very very happy!
if you mean the zinger burger thats 1 part chilli sauce (I usually find in in the foregin food isle) and 2 parts ketchup :) if he wants it towered add a hash brown:)

Exactly. This book is great for saving money & also for cutting out fat & calories as you know exactly what you're putting in it. The end result might not be the same, but I'm sure most meals will be delish without the frying...

I just tried the shredded crispy chicken - it was great! I did fry it although I'm sure it would be really nice baked in foil...I would also marinate it for 4 hrs or overnight next time - but it was lovely. Hope it freezes as I made loads!

I also make the egg fried rice but I messed that up somehow...too much water in the rice I think as it was waaaay to mushy. It was still edible & that's all that's important! :p
  • Yummmm - made the banana muffins yesterday, lovely:)

    Thank you!!
  • So far I've made the lamb donor, the potato wedges (SOOOOO many times!!), the KFC, chilli chicken chow mein, beef chow mein and the mega burgers. All were gorgeous except the mega burgers - I took one bite and threw it away - awful. The chicken chow mein was so tender that you could cut the meat just with a fork.

    xx
  • I made the lamb doner last night and my DH said it was yum and tasted like it was take out. I had some, but never had one before so couldn't say whether it tasted like the real thing, was yum, though :D I'm going to make the breakfast muffins next on Sunday morning :)
