sb44, the housing and hand guard etc on that looks like plastic to me, but the blades and sides (with the lines on) look metal so it may well be the proper one.
I doubt you would get one made completely of metal for £25, even £50 come to that.
Yep, that is the proper one in the pic but I'm not sure if the one she showed me was the proper one. I didn't think the whole thing would be steel but I assumed the woman could tell that it wasn't steel inside.
I think I will go back and have another look as it will probably be someone else on the customer service desk tomorrow, they tend to swap around quite often. I won't feel embarassed then.0 -

Just ask them to take it out of the box and open it up to see if it's metal inside.
I wouldn't feel embarassed even if it is the same person on the CS desk, you're entitled to have a good nosey at it before you buyTank fly boss walk jam nitty gritty...0 -
Sb44 My Cookworks one is exactly the same as the one in your picture but it doesnt have the metal trim panels, its all white plastic with a steel serrated blade.
In all honesty those metal parts in the pic wouldnt improve it at all.
They are only decorative trim to make it look nice, its still mostly plastic.
BUT they do add another seam for food particles to get trapped in and make it harder to keep hygenic.
You would have to unfold it to see those metal parts as when its folded up it would look just like the plain white model.
Personally I would go for the plain one for ease of cleaning.
Its the same machine but £18 cheaper

Thanks!
To be honest, yes you probably could reduce the fat, but they won't be as nice!
My view is it's better to have something proper, full fat, but less frequently as a treat.
I made the sweet and sour balls again for OH at the weekend, went down a treat! I halved the batter recipe and it was just right for me.
Here's one for you clever people, we have most takeaway delights nailed, however there is one thing I would love an 'authentic' recipe for - dutch frikandel sausages. Not to be confused with German/Belgian frikadel patties/balls.
I fell in love with them in Holland, I know they are 'mixed meat' including horse  in some recipes, but I don't know the right seasoning etc.
Any Dutch chefs shed any light? :beer:0 -
Hi All
Have just come across this thread and have been reading with much interest. Im in two minds as to whether to buy the book or not and OH will need me to justify if I buy yet another book and it doesnt end up being used.
We are big fans of takeaway food (bad, I know), I know you cant post recipes but could you just tell me if these recipes are in the book as these are what we usually have......chinese chicken curry, chinese chow mein, beef in black bean sauce, pizza, burger, macdonalds (all varieties), kfc etc.....
Also been having doner kebab cravings the last few weeks but theyre so expensive around here that I havent given in lol, oh and tandoori takeaways are mega expensive too but I want one!!
Are the ingredients needed quite easy to get? And are the recipes complicated at all?

Take a look on the Amazon site here, it shows the index of all the recipes in the book.

Click on the picture of the book and it will bring up another window with pages from it, you want pages 171,172 etc.0 -

Well, the only reason I went for the stainless steel one is that it was in the sale at £25 instead of £50, the white one was £35.
So, I went in to buy it today and she said that will be £50+ please!!!!!!!!!!!
Luckily I had printed the reservation out and she got the manageress to reduce it for me. Phew!
Now I need to bake some bread to test it, not making kebabs for a couple of weeks as we had them last week, don't want to get sick of them.0 -
thanks SB, you reminded me to print out my reservation for OH to take with tomorrow!!
DueMarch, it really is worth the money, the Doner recipe alone will save you a fortuneNonny mouse and Proud!!

I have to say it was the best £3 odd that I have spent in a long time and has already paid for itself (it only arrived a week ago!)
It can cost a few pounds to buy the herbs and spices but you need so little they will probably last a long long time. I can still picture dh's face last night while the doner kebab was cooking - our house smelt like a kebab houseand the meat tasted exactly like the 'real thing'.
I want to try the southern fried chicken recipe but I don't have a fryer as we don't usually fry anything apart from the occasional egg. Does anyone know if you can shallow fry the chicken and if it would still taste the same?GC 2023 June £72/500 NSDs 1/100
