    Regarding the lamb doner kebabs.

I was making 3 to cook in the oven at the same time to cut down on fuel costs.

    Had a rethink.

Part of the whole thing is the lovely smell of them wafting through the whole house, you don't get that if you take a pre cooked one out of the freezer and zap it later in the day.

I think I will stick to making them 'fresh' one at a time in future.

    ;)

By the way, I have used this recipe with beef mince and shaped them into sausage shapes, grilled them and had them in wraps with salad, salsa and grated cheese. Lovely!

I made sweet & sour chicken balls with egg fried rice for dinner again today, definitely my favourite and so much nicer than the takeaway.

I've got loads of recipe books and not only was this one the cheapest but it's the one that's used most often. It falls open itself now on my most used recipes. :o

  • To those worried about fat - don't be - fat from good meat like lamb is not necessarily bad for you, it fills you up, and we need a certain amount. It is different from man-made unnatural fats (hydrogenated fats eg) which our bodies don't know what to do with!

I must admit, though, I find mince from the butcher the best, tastes delicious, cooks easily, and cleanly, no nasty pools of grease at the bottom of the pan after.

We have made the kebabs - our own versions of anyway! - and really enjoyed them.

OH has started making the tarka dhal for himself tonight, it will be interesting to see how he gets on tomorrow with it. Smells nice already. Shame I can't have any. (lentils don't agree with me).

  • well, we had the chilli garlic chicken curry last night. Had the chicken for 4 meals marinating then DH took over, insisting I rest while he did the remaining bit. All went well, he said the chicken was done so started doing the rest, said goodbye to my brother, had a fag etc etc.....25 mins later he realised he didnt take the chicken out!!!!! I could have quite cheerfully killed him, I had been looking forward to this meal all week!!! He made the best that he could out of the 7 chicken breasts and chopped them up and in the end...even though the chicken had a consistency of beef jerky it was still gorgeous!! Possibly the best curry I have ever had!! Very very spicy though, even my eye balls were sweating. Next time I'd half the chilli (and do it myself) :)
  • I just ordered this book on my kindle and am now off to have a good look through it. Can't wait to try a lot of the recipes recommended here :)
  • Planning to entertain using doner, southern fried chicken, chicken pakora, wedges, salad sauces etc.
However, I've found the tesco pittas quite thin - was wondering if anyone knows which shop sells the largest/ sturdiest.
    Thanks

Aldi sell large pittas, I think they are 59p for six, my husband prefers these to the Tesco ones as you can get more salad in there.

Made the kebab meat this morning and chilled in the fridge. Have just sliced it up with a cheese slicer! So easy and all slices are the same thickness.

Could you give me some feedback on what you think of the kindle version once you've had a look at it. I'm loving my kindle but have only downloaded fiction or biographical type books, not tried a cookery book. After reading all the good reports of this book am sorely tempted but much as I love the kindle I'm wondering whether better to stick with paperback for this.

    Thanks Snapdragon
