Only because my husband doesn't like his pitta bread jam packed with meat and he likes to have some for lunch the following day.
I do make a lot of salad and we have lots of different sauces on there too.
Also, I use a Borner food slicer to slice the meat wafer thin as below.jammy_dodger wrote: »depends i guess how thin you can slice the meat ? we get 6 - 8 well fillled pittas from1 Lb mince plus a bit to nibble on chef perks
if i let it cool and clice on electric slicer can get loads more

Brill thanks everyone!! I sliced mine with a slicer aswell and got enough meat for 10 generously filled pittasCouldnt decide whether I was being stingy with the meat (not that it matters as its only me who eats it) or whether that was about right. I even got the mince reduced to 80p so the donner meat for 10 kebabs is a MAJOR bargain :T add to that the pitta and salad (havent bothered with the sauce but will give it a shot soon) and its still considerably cheaper than the real deal and tastes just as good if not better

Mmmmm, Louisa those milkshakes and the cheesecake look GORGEOUS!! I treated myself to an oreo milkshake whilst out today and it was delish. Might have to make myself one at home
Definately make it at home kevie its soooo easy. soft scoop icecream, milk and sugar/ or milk shake flavouring with crushed up oreos yum!
We have a 'shake away' near us and they cost inbetween £2 and £4 something we've used about £2.50 worth of ingredients for 4pints and got loads of the ingredients left.0 -

For anyone that struggles with cutting the kebab meat nice and thin, I've just bought this from Argos. Used it to slice some gammon today and it is really excellent. Gonna use it for my second go at the kebabs on Tuesday to cut it nice and thin.

Jenni, I didn't have any gravy powder (typically it was 10 o'clock at night when I had a craving for this, and had to make do with what I had in the cupboard lol) so I just fired in a Knorr Beef Stock Pot, and topped up with water, and it worked out great.0 -

The night I made it I decided to cut it up whilst still warm. Honestly, I could've used the slices as doorstops they were that thick.
The next day, after it'd chilled in the fridge, it sliced nice and thin and I have to say, the thinner slices tasted better. I don't think it was just that "next day tastes better" thing that you get with a lot of foods, I think the thick slices were just too overpowering per bite. IYSWIM
I've added a slicer to my Amazon Wishlist.ifonlyitwaseasier wrote: »eeek!!! just reserved one for OH to collect and wrap and pretend i don't know about for my birthday pressie!!!!

Don't forget to act surprised when you unwrap it.0 -
we also had a go at making the cheesecake. this is my pitiful attempt, i used a whole tub of soft cheese so i could make a family size one for the family, but the smallest cheesecake tin i had was this size and it obviously wasnt quite enough. however the taste is amazing.
Fantastic, about to make this myself, I have the nutella and cream cheese, I was just worried that it may be too sickly sweet.DFW Nerd 267. DEBT FREE 11.06.08

Doners last night ... definitely better than the lamb kofte kebabs.
We sliced it after the 10 mins resting time (well, my OH sliced it for me!), slices weren't that thin but OH said the taste was almost spot on! Hurrah! We got 5 large white pittas worth out of it (probably 5 slices per pitta). It was possibly the easiest thing in the world to make, almost as easy as beans on toast!!
Elf06 - you have to try the sauces, particularly the red kebab sauce. I swear it goes with ANYTHING dipping wise - breads, carrot sticks, chips, everything! Its stunning, you will never eat plain ketchup again.
Am still pondering the cost, after buying the mince and salad stuff, yoghurt for white sauce, pittas ... and the cost of having the oven on for 1hr 20mins (I have absolutely no idea what the cost of that is!)?0 -
Haven't got my book with me atm but tempted to make the doners soon - when you guys say white and red sauce, are you talking about the garlicky mayo sauce and the chilli sauce?£2 Savers Club 2011 (putting towards a deposit
