KitKat - I was induced with number 2 for BP reasons. I didn't nee the gel they just burst the waters, i was not allowed in the pool or anything other then on a bloody bed I had a drip etc and constant monitoring. No idea if thats typical or if it was due to my BP reather than the inductionMF aim 10th December 2020 :j:eek:MFW 2012 no86 OP 0/20000

That's awful Lilac. I'll ask if this is the case when I have 2nd sweep. Don't fancy being stuck to the bed!
Not sure if I've posted this before (sorry terrible memory) but boots are doing pampers 6 pack of sensitive wipes for just over £3 making it just over 50p a pack

smartie with my first I asked OH to shave me but he did an awful job so the nurse did a bit more in the hospital, they just dry shave it but only the top bikini line bit, not alot. I think the shower creams are rubbish personally the other creams are way better. Re afterpains I did not get them after my first but did after my second because the womb needs to shrink back down still.
not totally caught up yet but congrats to delain and elainec xxx
good luck tomorrow MV x0 -
Kitkat, I think if they give you the gel or break your waters and you progress into labour naturally then you have the same options. It's only limited if they have to put you onto a drip...
I loved my waterbirth with DD1... With DD2 they insised on constant monitoring, but they did it via a clip to the baby's head so once the clip was in place and taped to the inside of my leg I was able to get up and move off the bed as far as the wire would reach so it wasn't too horrendous... Plus it took me so long to get to 5cm I'd have never made it into the pool anyway... She shot out 45mins later...A very proud Mummy to 3 beautiful girls... I do pity my husband though, he's the one to suffer the hormones...My Fathers Daughter wrote: »Krystal is so smart and funny and wonderful I am struck dumb in awe in her presence.

kitkat - Your only restricted when your induced on a drip and tbh they wack it up that much that you start off pretty much within the hour anyway. Your restricted because of the needle in your hand. With the gel it can take a few attempts to start off although I started within hours and your free to move about as normal .
PS My cervix was the same, tough as old boots apparently thats why the MW ripped me to see if it would helps things along. She was known to get results but unfortunately all the sweeps I had didnt work. I was told by one MW to double the amount of laxatives to help things - tried that too but didnt work either, Cant do any harm just once!0 -
KK sorry your sweep didn't go so well. I know I may sound a bit like pigpen but remember with all of these medical interventions the choice is still yours and please ask them what the benefits are, risks, alternatives and remember you can say NO at anytime to them. So if they want to put you on a drip and you don't want to, them say it in an assertive manner (not aggresive!!). Is one thing I learnt from my NCT class yesterday. I am being induced with a 24 hour pessary after which they may want to break my waters/put me on a drip etc but I will only do these things after I have thought about all of these things - it may be worth doing some research on the internet. . .Thomas born 28/08/2010 weighing 5lbs and 4ounces, small but perfectly formed :j:j Now weighs 19lbs and 5 ounces

smartie Whatever hair cream you use...i have a veet shower one i think, just cos it doesn't have to stay on as long..though I still leave for about 5 mins before getting in the shower, make sure you put one of those hair catchers in the plug hole!!
kitkat - If you PM me your address I can stick a few RLT bags into the post first class tomorrow, they're only cheap and not worth paying online postage. I have a small box here which I must crack open!
Just heard that my friend (from real life) is in labour but baby's heartbeat has dropped so she has been blue-lighted to Poole from Bournemouth...she could end dup next to delain! I presume they are going to do an emergency c-section.
I am now def looking into waterbirth, like sir m said must do some research, information is power!Mum to gorgeous baby boy born Sept 2010:j0 -

I don't really fancy a NHS shave "down there" in quick speed if I'm needing an emergency CS:eek: and also want to be prepared for an elective one too.
And CS expert ladies... I take it you don't get afterpains like with a normal delivery??
oh yes you do get the afterpains.. but they like giving you drugs so they are bearable! For a c section they shave it off cos they do the cut just under the bikini line (I think??)
Think dry shave with a blunt razor.. if you do it yourself or get OH to.. then do!!
they shave to about halfway down the pubic bone if that helps.. and mine grows back more orange every flipping time!!!LB moment 10/06 Debt Free date 6/6/14Hope to be debt free until the day I dieMortgage-free Wannabee (05/08/30)6/6/14 £72,454.65 (5.65% int.)08/12/2023 £33602.00 (4.81% int.)0 -
Thanks Rach I cant believe its thurs so soon either and am a little nervous about c-section wouldnt be normal if I wasnt but very excited about meeting baby.
Smartie I can just about manage to shave top of bikini line blind as I have done it every other day for ever - seems to grow back quickish well some short stubble anyway - although I have asked husband on wednesday night whether he could do it which he will, would rather he did it and can rub in some antesptic cream (mosturiser wouldnt be good idea if c-section cut is going to be along it), than a health care assistant or more likley a 1st yr student midwife do it!!
Must remember at my pre-op on tues to say I dont want any student midwifes doing any intimate care for me ie - inserting or removing catheter or helping me shower, etc etc as in my job part of my role is teaching student nurses and although dont have a huge amount to do with the student midwifes the school of nursing and midwifery is seperate to rest of uni and last thing I want is to be in a professional capacity with the student who helped me shower!!
I am the worst patient ever and refuse medical students for the reason being I dont want them knowing my personal history in case I see them in a professional capacity - last appointment with consultant about c-section she said oh I have a medical student thats ok isnt it, I said actually no - the health care assistant went she said no and just shut the door in his face which was a bit mean!!
just had a nice hot bath which has helped back and hips a bit.0
