MV Hope you get on ok at your NCT class. Just remember everyone else is in the same boat – I’m sure you will meet some nice mums to be there :)

Pukkamum sounds like a trip to the hospital for you my love! Best to get these things checked just in case – hope it all goes ok.

PlymouthScubaGirl well done – feels great doesn’t it. It’s a massive achievement so hope you feel really proud to have accomplished it.

SO as for us……..we celebrated our good news from the scan yesterday by taking a trip to M & P and Mothercare. Had our first play with a couple of prams at M & P – the lady was super helpful and really gave us some good information. Tried the Pliko Pramette which I LOVED and the M & P Sola which I wasn’t so keen on the look of but I liked the handling of it. Think we are going to have to think really carefully about what we go for and may need a few more visits to try stuff out before we decide what to get.

It felt weird pushing a pram around but kind of right at the same time. It really made me realise I am ready to be a mummy and can’t wait till we are pushing around a little baby of our own :D

Now to start making lists of what we need to buy – I think OH is a little confused over what we will need to get before baby comes so a list will definitely help him get his head around it all.

That would be me. I have a 30% chance of losing my job. Wooooo.

Any advice on stuff would be greatfully received.

If I am made redundant, my notice will be issued on 3rd December and is either for 1 month or 2 weeks, will need to check my contract. I go on ML on 11th January. Silly question, but will I be bunged on stat mat pay from 11th (124.88 a week) or will I be entitled to any extra as I've only just left work?

Not that fussed right now about it, only in a financial sense.

ETA, not forgotten about name/colour stuff. Am just dealing with work issues at the mo. *sigh*

I was made redundant at 26 weeks in 2007. basically if you are still employed at 25 weeks you are entitled to your contractual maternity pay it will prob be paid as a lump sum which unfortunately means a large amount of tax which wouldn't be the case if it was paid monthly although if you fill in a form t the tax office to declare that you won't be working again this tax year you will get some refunded.
If you think it's very likely to be made redundant you may wish to take your maternity early before the 3rd of December this will then protect you and you are entitled to return to your job at the end of your leave if you post no longer exists they are obliged to find you something else suitable. basically once you are on maternity it is very very difficult to make a woman redundant without pretty much closing the whole company. If you need any more help on this give me a shout.
    Good luck pukkamum x

    Quick maternity leave/pay question..

Do you need to advise the tax office that you are going on mat leave so they can adjust your tax accordingly, or is that done automatically?

My HR dept didn't seem to have a definitive answer and advised I call the tax office, which I will do at the w/e, but just wondered if anyone knew?

I'm due a bonus in December, and as my pay will be higher than normal for that month because of that, I dont really want them taking a huge chunk of tax that I have to wait to claim back in March/April time.

No you don't, tax is PAYE and you receive (assuming the standard tax code) £124.52 tax free a week anything over is taxed at 20%, so if your pay drops substantially you will pay little or no tax automatically. You will have to tell tax credits if appropriate for your joint income bracket, if you want any increase now rather than the following tax year.
Re bonus: you will be taxed extra that month around 32% of it will go to tax and NI, if you earn £124.52 a week or more after and for the rest of the tax year you will not receive anything back, you will only receive a rebate if there are any weeks before April 2011 that you earn less.
(From april 2011 you can earn £143.75 a week tax free)

  • pukkamum you can always chat to school on the 'phone, this is more important. Well done for calling in. Swelling isn't usually a sign of labour I don't think, though maybe it is a particular sign for you.

It can be pre-eclampsia related, which is why they want to do BP. Fingers crossed.

    Good luck legs xxx :D

    Hugs for fuzz too xxx

Thanks hngrymummy, I might PM you with a few names if you wouldn't mind? There's no rush for a reply, hope you can sort some of your work stress out - sending you hugs too xxx

I know I've missed loads out, but I seriously can't keep up with everyone and I'm ever so slightly nervous about addressing people I "don't know" :o Everyone seems to have their friendships and I don't fancy elbowing my way in so I tend to read and send people virtual hugs without posting. That doesn't mean I don't think of you all though - especially paws - has anyone heard from her?

Just wondering... Saw one of the midwives yesterday, she said I don't need to see them again until I'm 28 weeks (I'm off to the consultant on Friday, then scan on the 22nd) but I haven't had any forms to fill in for the free prescriptions/dentist (the midwife I saw at my second appointment didn't have any) and I'm sure I've read that you have to fill in the HiP forms at 25 weeks and send them off as soon as possible - not that I'm a money grabber or anything, but I'd like what I'm entitled to. (We get royally screwed over with hubby's tax so I'd like something back!) Is there a form I should look for online, or phone up for? Or do I just wait til 28 weeks and sort it then? Thanks in advance if anyone can help :)

Hugs to anyone who needs/wants them, hope you're all well xxx

  • pukkamum- def second what grateful said.....more important to get your bum to hospital and checked out. it doesn't take long to do blood pressure so you may get it done and be able to make the parents evening. Good luck :)

    Fairy -
thanks chick. it's a massive achievement for me being debt free, which just happened to coincide with my due date. in fact its since finding out that I was pregnant that gave me the kick up the bum to really sort. A great feeling :T

Just done an hour of aqua aerobics and am feeling surprisingly good.......get the feeling I will be in bold for some time yet  x
  • Cutterby - you could call and ask that the midwife leaves the forms for both with the receptionist at the docs, you can then just collect? Its not a case of being a money grabber - i had mine ear-marked for my pram and was keen to spend it :D
p.s you can't print the HIP form off - they need to sign/stamp if I remember right?

pukkamum you really must ensure someone sees you....if they cannot come out you must go in.

Just had a marginally more successful sweep.....no dilation but cervix dropped, and summat occurring as looks like plug has just gone :D I know that it could still be ages away, but I am feeling more positive that at least there has been some action! Next sweep booked for Tuesday
