Yeah, I was just googling and read that breastfeeding keeps periods at bay. If this is true then that makes me happy.
Do you, or anyone else know if you get period pains/cramps with the bleeding after birth? I'm just wondering if it's going to be a debilitating as my monthly periods are.
You get 'afterpains' where the uterus contracts back to its original size after birth, I didnt think it was too bad last time, just like bellyache for a few days, am not looking forward to it this time as it apparently gets worse the more children you have hmm. Dont remember any period pains but then it was a while ago, dont worry you forget all about it at some point anyway lol xxSealed Pot Challenge Member 151

Welcome across Fantafan.
Gizmodo, I think its a bit of an old wives tale that breast feeding keeps your periods away (or that it is a form of contraception) - sorry! Your previous issues with your periods sound a bit baffling, maybe they will clear up as mysteriously as they arrived after you give birth. We Made-it-3 on 28/01/11 with birth of our gorgeous DD.0 -
Welcome over here Fanta, wow seems like a long time ago I was chatting with you on the 'baby' thread
Emsy, you are well rid, I know you know that! In my experience if they were that loved up they wouldn't need to tell the world about it. Just change your newsfeed so you don't have to read all his rubbish updates (yawn). Hugs tho, I know how it feels. I'd just pity the poor girl xx
Been chatting today about what I'd prefer, boy or girl. I honestly can't have a preference. In some ways I'd love a girl to dress up pretty and do girly things, but I suspect a boy would be far easier to deal with - boys are less complicated and definitely not as good at getting their own way!
Motm, I suspect you've had it more expensive with girls, in my family I think mr and my sisters cost my folks more than my bro did. In theory we had similar amounts spent on us but we were good at forgetting to repay loans, or desperately needing shiny new shoes and so on0 -

Sorry Coops, I had my scans at Stonehaven and they won't tell you there either...signs up everywhere saying not to even ask. I've gotten used to the idea of it being a surprise now so we're not paying for a private scan. Have you decided where you're going for the main event?
Ah, had a funny feeling that might be the case as my 12 week scan was in AMH and they had signs up too saying they wouldn't tell you the flavour.
Ho hum, will just need to either wait or go for the 4D scan. Will discuss with OH at some point.
I have been told that if it is all fine and dandy with no complications that I have the choice of where I want to go, either Aberdeen, Dundee or if I am really lucky Montrose which would be the preference as it's soo much closer and as it's midwife led, a lot more laid back and relaxed. I doubt I would go for Aberdeen to be honest, pretty busy and not heard too many good things to be honest. Dundee seems to be better and not as busy so as we are half way between both it seems like as good a choice as any!!!!
Cool that you got a rebate, I wish!!!!
GFH - got a prescription last time I was in for a huge bottle of gaviscon, I was just unfortunate that it was in the house and I was on the way to work for 12hours (30 miles away too)!!! Hence the supermarket stop!!:D
BigBird - fingers crossed for the take that tickets, then a speedy arrival of little one for cuddles!!
Ladylegs - oh I so had a laugh at you putting frozen peas on poor bubs head :rotfl:
Fantafan - big welcome, cute picture, laid back indeed, hopefully they stay that way!!!
Emsy - sorry to hear about his status change, crap huh
MV - get yourself along to the midwife and get a prescription. They gave me a huge bottle of gaviscon and told me to drink with a straw!!! lol
Sorry if I have missed anyone else!!!
Big news from me is that there I was whinging last night about not feeling movements and lying in bed this morning, knackered, I felt a tightening in my tummy and told little one to settle and then started to feel buzzing inside, like a blue bottle flying about. I think Sammy said she felt that a while ago too. :rotfl:I then must have fallen asleep! Doh.
And then tonight on the way to work I was almost there and started to talk to my little bump and I got a response in that I felt the tightening again and I could feel the buzzing again!!!
Wow, it's totally awesome that there is something alive inside there and reacting to me!!! Oh my goodness, I'm gonna be a mum!!!!:j:jMini Coops arrived 2011:j0 -

Giz - i had endo before having DD and pregnancy is actually the best cure for it, mine never came back after having her, so therefore if it is endo hopefully you may find it doesn't come back.
I didn't get any period pains with the bleeding after birth only the after pains of the uterus going back to normal size.I don't get nearly enough credit for not being a violent psychopath.0 -

I'm a lurker from the parenting thread (my LO is now nearly 1) but I just wanted to say that it's not a myth that BFing can delay your perios returning- mine took 8 months to come back (by which time I was still BFing but much less so as my son was also eating food). It's not a contraceptive though as you can still ovulate.
I didn't have any period type pains with the bleeding after the birth- hope that helps.:DYummy mummy, runner, baker and procrastinator0 -

Hello - I'm still lurking even though I gave birth 5 weeks ago.
I had painful afterpains that lasted for about 24 hrs after giving birth. They do give you painkillers in hospital though if you need them.
I think the afterpains get worse with each pregnancy, with my 1st I don't remember having them and with my 2nd I only remember getting them briefly. 3rd time was the most painful!0 -
morning everyone
thanks for that ethels mum, one more thing to look forward to. I didn't really notice afterpains the first time either but most certainly did the second time, hope its not too bad this time although I'll be on quite a few painkillers for a few days at least.0
