    Hi fuzz

I lost weight in the first 7-10 weeks, then put it back on and stayed at my usual weight until about 16 weeks. Now put on a stone in 6 weeks.

I have been told by a MW at the hospital that I need to put on a stone regardless of being PG, but I'm dubious as I eat healthily and usually quite a lot, so I think that my usual weight is exactly right for me.

And this lady understands breastfeeding better than many midwives.:T:T:T:T:T:T:T:T:T:T:T:T:T
    Why thank you :)

I've done a fair bit of training... Spent 3 years as a trustee / director of a national breastfeeding charity and have done it myself for a combined total of 50 months... And counting...

(Although I'm not registered anymore so don't try and sue me because I'm not covered by the insurance anymore lol)

krystal I had it all planned out with top ups based on how I did with DS but now it seems I don't have gestational diabetes this time so hopefully I won't need to give top ups at all and it'll all be like you said. DS blood sugars did drop after the birth so he did need the tops ups and it is quite possible that is what delayed my milk coming in, although I'm not sure it ever did come in, at least not like it did with dd.

So - probably a daft question :o, but if you have gestational diabetes can affect the babies hunger then? BF DD1 with no problems, but DD2 was never satisfied and I was not tested for GD after she was born - apparently I should have been, other factors involved with DD2 (PND, traumatic birth, house move.....) but just wonder if that was a factor.

Krystaltips - really good to know you have such good knowledge of breastfeeding - I am really scared I am not successful this time, am quite sure (in fact I know!) that my 'failure' with DD2 was a huge factor in my PND, and I know that I gave it my best shot - managed 12 weeks, and I know all the other positive things that I should say but it really did affect me, and I know I will have a hard job coming to terms with it if it should happen again, but its a really tricky one! DD1 was a stroll in the park compared to DD2 - still is to be fair!
    DD1 - May 02 8lbs 6oz
    DD2 - June 05 10lbs 6oz

    DD3 - 24th Jan 11 7lbs 9oz

2girls, GD means that a baby's blood sugars can drop shortly after birth and they often recommend topping up with formula as a way to raise it, but it's generally in the first few days after birth and then stabilises...

Chances are DD2 was a different feeder to DD1... Often if they don't seem satisfied then it might be that your positioning isn't as optimal as it could be and the baby isn't getting enough of the really fatty part of the feed to help sustain them...

The other thing to factor is that with a family and a home to keep we often find ourselves too busy to sit down and focus on feeding the baby like we do with the first one and we find ourselves watching the clock during a feed, trying to get them to hurry up and finish so we can get on... Having a big sigh when they decide they're still hungry an hour later... Sometimes we need to just take a step back, remind ourselves that it's a very short time in their / our lives... It will pass, it does get better and who cares if there's 3 days worth of dishes in the sink and the toddler's eating a day old sandwich it found under an arm chair...

Hugs, honey. You have something soo much more important and exciting to do, but know how you feel, I love my job and hate being "out of the loop".
