Just had my first bath since finding out I'm pregnant (I'm not smelly, I just have showers!), was a bit paranoid up till now cause of that whole "hot bath bottle of gin" home-abortion thing...but I just got soaked to the skin (literally, had to wring out my bra) coming back from the coffee shop so decided to have a bath to warm up. Peanut was really dancing around when I was in there so I got scared and got out! Still dancing around now though so I'm hoping it's all fine :)

Eek - Courgette! I think being at home is a good idea - that poor girl though :(

Just had a 45 min snooze though have woken up very hot and dizzy...it's very close today here.

courgette - poor you. i did hear about a midwife who refused to be induced and was a month overdue. Baby came out with loads of hair but totally fine. Thinking of you xx

Lilian - i was nervous about baths early on but have them almost every day now, really helps me relax and eases the SPD a bit. I am also more confident getting out of the bath than if I've had a shower as I can slowly get up from kneeling position. DH doesn't want me to have showers when he's not here now in case I slip.

rach i forgot to ask, did u buy a tens then? do your hosptial not have any? im shocked at the differences between what some hospitals supply and some dont. i mean if its all NHS surely they should all provide the same services? confused.
i'm not sure that they do one, I got this one 2nd hand for £25 - decided easier than hiring and can lend it out/sell it on later too!

Have a kitkat for me too please lilian! I would love one right now. Am getting cravings for chocolate, but must resist as I'm caffeine intolerant, and will most likely end up with a migraine :( In fact if anyone has chocolate, have a bite for me and remember that it's my quota of calories so won't affect you at all :D

Trying to get the energy to empty the washing machine, refill it and pop into town.....
I have a pile of baby clothes to fold...must do it! I had a line of the big bar of Dairy Milk that my sister put in a lovely bag of stuff she sent down for me the other day

In fact, that was a lovely idea and something I'll do for friends in the future - there was chocolate, some other sweets for labour, lip balm, nice bath stuff & body lotion, a small fan, and some outfits for baby that they didn't use with theirs. Really thoughtful I thought :)

    Hi everyone!

First time to this thread but not for myself, for a friend!

Been glancing at a few pages of posts but not sure where to go for answers to my question.

My friend is now 3 days past her due date but her consultant said she wouldnt perform a sweep as its not necassary. I know all hospitals and midwifes work differently but when I had my last (just over 3 years ago) I had a weekly appt in the last month and a sweep at 40 weeks. My friend had an appt on the 37th week and the 39th but not due another til wednsday (her 41st week) she is so tired and fed up and very weepy with discomfort in her legs and was almost begging her doctor to help and perform a sweep but she told her to go home, relax and get some rest before baby comes. She is a single mum to a 6 year old girl so this isnt always possible. My friend has just rang me again in tears saying she cant do this no more and Im not sure what I can do to help. I am her birthing partner and all I can do is offer her a shoulder to cry on and an ear. She has tried many wives tales to bring on labour and experienced harsher than normal braxton hicks which lasted over several days but have not happened again for two days.
Anyway, my question is can she or should she demand a sweep or is the consultant right in not letting her have one? There is no medical reason for it, the consultant just said it wasnt necessary. I assumed at first that this was because she was maybe already in early stages of labour but when I suggested this she said the consultant just said if labour hadnt started by her next appt they will book her in for inducement date the follwing week or two which would make her 42/43 weeks.
Also, any suggestions on what I can do for her in the meantime, things I could say? I never felt this way during pregnancy so not sure what to say or do!?
    TIA

Sorry Law I have no idea. There is bits and pieces online about DIY sweeps but I think she would need a willing helper. All I can suggest is she continues with the old wives tales of nipple stimulation, walking, up and down stairs etc. The consultant does not have to perform a sweep and other than your friend outright asking for a sweep then I don't knw what she can do> Sorry

  • Had a productive day at McArthur Glen today, though I am now exhausted, it was a really long day, left at 8.30am on the bus, then left the centre at 5pm!! I was really disappointed with the mamas and papas shop though, it was tiny not much in the way of maternity wear, I did pick up a couple of pack of socks!! But got a lovely cozy hat and gloves set from Next for £1 :D:D:D And a nice pair of matty jeans from Next too for £15. Got a bargain on a pair of Sketcher boots and flip flops, the tone up ones.

Thank you..... just feeling very sorry for her! Ok, have sent her a text to keep up the tales, receievd one back saying, ''ive just finished having a rock and bounce on the ball, bouncey bouncey bouncey = outey outey outey'' Lol! She seems to have cheered up a bit anyway!
  • I'm a bit jealous of you ladies who have been shopping for baby things. Whenever I start looking at baby things my brain seems to freeze up completely and I have to walk away. I looked at some cute outfits in Tescos today, but as soon as I remembered they were for MY bump and not someone else's I just had to walk away. :(

Courgette - I hope things get moving for you soon. If they don't, you need to borrow that poor girl's phone and start telling her friends off for deserting her. It'll give you chance to get your frustrations out on someone
If having different experiences, thoughts and ideas to you, or having an opinion that you don't understand, makes me a troll, then I am proud to be a 100% crying, talking, sleeping, walking, living Troll. :hello:
