Top ups can either be formula or expressed milk. I used formula as wasnt able to keep up with a very hungry baby. I combined BF and FF for 3 months before I went completely over to FF. I was adamant I wanted to soley BF but ended up in hospital after 48 hours due to DD dropping from 10lb3oz to 8lb12oz. Which is where they said that either I BF and top up with formula or she needs to be completely FF. And that was from a hospital that is completely Pro BF (no decent facility for FF on maternity ward).

on a similar subject, I am hoping to BF but SiL has advised also taking some formula in hospital bag...what do other people think/experiences?Mum to gorgeous baby boy born Sept 2010:j0

Thanks you guys. I've got to admit... I'm happy to do it so that the baby gets all the good stuff at the beginning and then see how we go. I'm rather overly keen though because of the amount of weight I lost so quickly last time (I know... selfish me lol - whaddaya gonna do?!
).
But i'd really like to figure out a way that I can let hubby feed baby too. So i'll look into those bottles rach. Thanks for the info and I had also heard good things about the Tommee Tippee bottles.Beautiful Baby Boy born 28 April 20110 -
Congratulations Bunny :T Love the name
Emily is on our list of possibles
Good luck to Courgette. Anyone know what time her induction was scheduled for?
Rach, do you know if your hospital offers formula if needed? Mine does so I won't need it in my hospital bag. But I was planning on getting a couple of cartons in to have on standby, just in case BF doesn't work out, so we don't have to go dashing out to a 24 hour supermarket in the middle of the night. Our nearest is 12 miles away and I don't fancy me or DH having to do that drive on no sleep
I'm hoping to express too so DH can be involved in some of the feeding and have some of the Tommee Tippee bottles. My NCT antenatal instructor recommended waiting around 6 weeks before introducing a bottle though, to make sure breast feeding is established. So I'll probably wait til then unless the baby needs more milk than I can provide myself. You can do anything, make anything, dream anything. If you change the world, the world will change.0 -
Bunny - congrats love the name!
Courgette - hope all goes well today
Rach our hosp have the ready made bottles so we dont need to bring any in. might be worth giving your hospital a ring to double check. was in boots this morning and they have the ready made cartons of cow and gate they are 52p each, maybe you could get a few of these for just incase instead of forking out for a big box of formula which you might not even use.
bought some rasberry leaf tea today so might start that.0 -

Our breastfeeding advisor recommended using a cup, which is tiny with a lip on it, allowing baby to basically lap the milk. The reason they advise against bottles is that it is a different technique to BF. However I used Tommee Tippee closer to nature and as said swapped between BF and FF.DS1 arrived 22/02/11! 8lb3oz

Congratulations Bunny!!:j:T:D But  at the weight!!
Smartie - hope you're well enough to come out soon, sorry to see you had problems.
Sarah - your poor cat, that is very sad. I know some people don't like cats but that's no reason to be cruel. Hope you feel better soon.
MV - hope you feel better soon too! And yay for feeling baby! In no time at all you'll be feeling movements all the time!
I have no plans to take formula into hospital with me. I'm trying breast feeding and will use the support at the hospital, if its not working we'll take it from there and I'll see what the midwives suggest.
This trying to be active is wearing me out! And the return of pregnancy nausea doesn't help! I'll do what I can but I'm concerned that I'll end up shattered just before labour starts and won't have the energy for the big event! Still, off to aquanatal shortly:D:D0 -
My bubba is very quiet today
Was yesterday too but felt enough for me not to worry....may have to go home on my lunch for a lay down & try and harrass bubba into moving.
Anyone else felt less movements around 32/33weeks?1.11.09 - debt = £45k:eek:

How difficult would it be to just express breast milk and give baby that? Hubby is a bit squeemish re the BF'ing! (rollseyes).
Is it doable?Beautiful Baby Boy born 28 April 20110
