I find myself getting infuriated now when I see a fictional birth on TV or film. Even though this will be my first, just from reading I can see how far fetched some of these scenes are.
I don't think reading or hearing others birth stories helps as everyone is different also I think some people just love to show off about what heroines they've been and are prone to exaggerate how long they've been in labour, blood loss, pain etc etc.
I do think that through reading and understanding the process and what might happen to me has made me a bit calmer about the whole birth thing. We Made-it-3 on 28/01/11 with birth of our gorgeous DD.0 -

I think you're absolutely right. And, to be honest, you tend to hear more about the ones where something goes wrong, because there is more to talk about. That makes it seem like there are more complicated births than there really are. I've never written up my birth story as there seems no point, as it wasn't very dramatic.
I found it really helpful to understand the mechanics of how the cervix dilates and how the baby gets through the pelvis, it made me feel calmer and more in control.
I'm looking forward far more to this birth than I was to the last one, simply because I know better what to expect.0 -

I agree too chakani.
I'm trying to look at the whole child birth thing as being something of a challenge, and in a strange way I'm kind of (can't believe I'm typing this!) looking forward to it as such.
Mind you give me a few more weeks and I'll probably be a nervous wreck!:rotfl:Metranil dreams of becoming a neon,You don't even take him seriously,How am I going to get to heaven?,When I'm just balanced so precariously..0 -
