That's a nice way of wasting police time.Would you report someone who drove past your house at 35mph every day too?

There's no reason to involve the developer, solicitors, the police, Ghandi at this stage. They haven't even had a reasonable chat with the van driver yet. That's the 1st course of action. What happened to chatting to your neighbours?

The police have different divisions, one of which is traffic, this comes under traffic and as such is part of their duties, if anyone will be wasting police time it will be the illegal parker.

As you can see from the following quotes, he has been chatted to and it cuts no ice

He is aware that the neighbours are annoyed, they've told him so, hence why he has stated that he's been given permission to park on the road.

the digger on the trailer is huge and he often has to park over a driveway (not mine) to fit it on the cul-de-sac.
    janninew wrote: »
Yes he is causing an obstruction! This older guy can't get off his driveway! Its a small qul-de-sac and all houses have a drive, there is only one space van man can park in without causing an obstruction, if when he gets home somebaody else has parked there, he parks it outside his own house (2 cars on drive for him and his wife already) and as its so long, it blocks the other elderly mans drive. He wouldn't be able to get off wihtout van man moving it. This van with trailer must be about 3 cars length long.

Van man has been asked not to park there, but he still does it. That is why neighbours are getting cross. Van man has a drive which can easily accomadate his works vehicle and digger, but he chooses to keep his cars on his drive, the best solution I think would be to park the cars on the road (they would fit outside his house, without causing an obstruction) and park the 'eyesore' on the drive, out of other residents way. He won't do that though as he thinks his cars are safer on the drive out of harms way, he obviously isn't as bothered about his works van being damaged.

My neighbour has the deeds and has shown van man the relevant section, his answer was that he was given 'special permission.' I'm not sure I believe this!

I suggested to him the idea of parking his van and trailer on the drive before all this started to kick off, he has never done this so obviously doesn't want to.

Van man has been quite dismissive (not really rude though) and seems to have the attitude that he can park where he likes and his neighbour should be quite happy to knock on his door when he wants to get out of his driveway. As others have pointed out, I'm not sure what happens if van man is out for the day in his own car, or in the shower etc. Should my other neighbour just have to stay blocked in?
Van man KNEW the rules and still chose to buy a house on this estate, not like there is a shortage of houses to buy round here. I have no idea how this is going to get resolved,

and what about the space he could fit in that the neighbours use ? seems like they are showing a lot more contempt for him :)

Garbage, read again, he has space to park his stuff on his own drive. He choses not to, instead parks in the road against the covenant of his ownership. Are you saying the neighbours park in his drive. Or matbe you just don't understand.:(

And just to add, (from his recent post), at least derrick has a grasp on the situation the neighbours and Jannine are faced with. :T:T:T
I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)

Assuming this was aimed at me - no I wouldn't report them to the police as the road outside my house is NSL. However the police are there to enforce the law so why shouldn't they be asked to do just that? We cannot pick which laws we want enforced - they are all there for a reason.

People seem to be jumping in and commenting and missing a few details -
The van & trailer are being parked in the street, and blocking a neighbour's driveway.
The van driver has said that he has special permission from the developer allowing him to park them, no-one has seen evidence of this yet. He has also stated that he will move the van when asked if it's in the way.
He's breaking 2 rules - the developer's rule that no vans (of whatever specification) should be parked in the development (and hasn't proven that he has permission)
and the highway code rule (and law) that you shouldn't block a driveway.
Have any of the neighbours tried contacting the developer to see if he has this permission?
You say you don't want to get involved OP, but it definitely looks like you are! Maybe you can help in making the solution an amicable one without getting too serious, the van driver should be given the right to reply and offer solutions, but it's in no way acceptable to be blocking others' access to their homes.

Quite correct AM, a point I have been trying to get accross to the OP from very early on. It also now doesn't help that she is objecting to recent responses when lots of them, mine and yours included have genuinely been supporting her :(

Thank you for pointing that out for me Derrick (knew I was correct all along!)

So to the OP - get your neighbours to complain to the police every night it is parked without lights,
    HTH

I don't think the quoted HC rules would apply here as it sounds like the OP lives in a housing estate. The road may or may not be adopted by the local authority.

I'm not objecting to your replies cyclonebri1, I have thanked them previously and taken them on board (I did say at the bottom of my last response, thanks for the helpful responses!)

Just seems like a waste of time posting on here anymore, there is little point debating my situation with people who haven't even read the thread! We just seem to be going round in circles!

I even recevived a nasty PM about this thread yesterday! Its unbelieveable, I thought this place was to help!

Thanks Derrick, I'm glad somebody is reading the thread and making sensible comments, don't want to have to repeat myself because people can't be bothered to read before commenting and keep raising points that have already been answered!

As you've said, the van isn't causing you any concern.

In which case, leave well alone and stop trying to make peoples lives a misery!

Jannine, it is, or at least I hope it is. Report the plank that sent you the PM

The majority on have decent standards, but there are allways the plonkers who would drag you and me down to their level.

You are right, the "offender" is wrong, stick with the neighbours and press it through. :T:T

I did report them thanks, first time I've had to do that, I suppose I shall be called all sorts for doing that, but hey ho!!
