what I really wanted to know is, if you find a comp with a daily entry on the main board how do you get back to it every day?
Personally, when I Log In every day, my first job is to go back through all of the posts that have been added since I was last on. I then add any that I want to enter to my Favourites in folders which are 'TV Comps' 'Magazines' Weekly' 'Daily' 'Monthly' and then I also have a folder for each month where I put the one entry only comps. I also correct the thread title if the date is wrong so that everything goes into the correct date order. That way, if a Daily, Weekly or Monthly is posted I have it in the appropriate folder. I only have problems when a post is then moved to the Regulars Board because my link that I have saved doesn't go anywhere. I don't have time to go to the Regulars Board very often, but it doesn't worry me unduly, there are just too many comps and not enough time.Luck is believing you’re lucky – Tennessee Williams

ok thanks
couple of questions
do you do this every day?
do you search by date?
did I read it right that you search the main board and all child boards every time?
if so does it matter which board they are in? this is a genuine question I want to know the problems it causes you
what I really wanted to know is, if you find a comp with a daily entry on the main board how do you get back to it every day?
sorry not to get back to you sooner have just been cooking dinner!
I don't really enter many comps now Glad but when I did comps regularly I used to use the method here
http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showpost.php?p=33178377&postcount=208
I further tweaked this system by downloading all of the links on the main board then just updating it on a daily basis by collecting all of the links from the previous day, they were then sorted into date order with just one click and then I used to enter them at my own leisure and by using this method I could also search by end date or for any prize that I wanted to enter for
as most of the daily and weekly comps with an end date used to be on the main board they also used to be added on a daily basis to my database which used to hold all of the Regular comps
but as they are now posted I like many posters would probably "Miss out" on them
I only collected links from the regulars board to post in my database but never really used it as such
yes I do search the main boards and all child boards every time but only when I am looking to see if a comp has previously been posted before I post a competition onto the forum0 -

thanks
just had a play around, when I copy the link to a thread, then move it to another board the link still works and I can't work out why yours doesn't, if anyone can help me out I'd be grateful
I wanted to know how people find these type of comps to see how many different ways are used, subscribing to a thread would still work if it was moved and I presumed, wrongly, that a saved link would too

The only problem with subscribing to threads is that when people subscribed to every thread in the past it caused problems for mse and vast amounts of old subscriptions and old threads had to be deleted to make it work again
most people who use the main boards don't search (because of the drawbacks of the present search system) or subscribe to comps they do there comps on a daily basis or by end date so if a comp is moved from the main board to the regulars most of them would not know anything about it
people bookmark and use there own systems to enter comps because mse doesn't work the way that they would like and the antiquated search system doesn't help them in finding comps either as they cannot search by end date
also most people who use the main boards don't venture into the Regulars board so are now missing out on a lot of competitions that they used to enter regularly
how about a button to bookmark comps to enter at a later date?0 -
You're right Glad, they do still work when they've been moved, I've just checked. I can only think that the odd ones that don't were perhaps duplicates that have been merged or the thread was deleted for self promotion or something. Either way, my method works for me and the time that I can afford to give to comping. Now, back to those darn AdventsLuck is believing you’re lucky – Tennessee Williams

at the moment I'm just thinking about threads with a daily entry, posted on the main board with an end date, however people come across them in the first place I was wondering how people then get back to them every day for their daily entryI am a Senior Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Wales, Small Biz MoneySaving, In My Home (includes DIY) MoneySaving, and Old style MoneySaving boards. I'm trying to work this out to see if the same methods can be used if they were all in the regs board, it would depend on people having to use that board and how the stickies were organised, ie putting 'added on ??/??' when a new link is posted on the sticky so people could see which were new onesI am a Senior Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Wales, Small Biz MoneySaving, In My Home (includes DIY) MoneySaving, and Old style MoneySaving boards. That method has certainly been useful on the Advent thread.Luck is believing you’re lucky – Tennessee Williams
