it's been reported to the team but I don't know anymore than you :o

I know some people would like a sticky on the main board to let people know the search isn't working but I'm not sure that would help

people would probably still go ahead and post the comp if they couldn't find it

don't worry about pm'ing me with merges though, I've no other plans for the weekend :rotfl:

Thanks for the update Glad it's most appreciated :)

apologies if you misinterpreted my post when I said it would nice to get some feed back :o

I didn't mean you glad your an :A and lovely!

I should have said from the web-master who never seems to acknowledge that a problem is being dealt with or keep us updated when problems arise

it would be nice if MSE had a status page like many other web sites have so that when users report a problem it is immediately flagged and updated when the problem is being dealt with ;)

I knew what you meant :);)

the status page sounds a good idea :) maybe you could start a thread suggesting it in site feedback :)
I just think the dupes will still occur even if people know about the search probs and wanted you all to know I'm around to do the merges :)

just looking at threads with wrong title formats, if I click on the 'end date view' button anything that hasn't got the correct 'E: date' comes up first in the list so I can check that a few times a day and edit them :D

I haven't posted recently in the debate about "regular" competitions but have just seen the TK Maxx competition I have been posting.

I have been posting it as a separate competition each week in the main board as it is a separate competition each week with a new prize and entries are not carried forward. There was also a thread in the regulars board for those who like it there, which I had been updating. If it was my choice it would have never been in the regulars board at all. I had been cross-linking to ensure nobody duped themselves.

Now I've just noticed that this week's competition has been merged with the thread in regulars. This week's competition has had 15 thanks. Compare this to the approximately 250 each for the previous two competitions that had been left where they were. So we can assume that a lot of people have missed out on this competition. How is this a good thing? I would never have seen it until I went to post next week, I only did because I was looking through my previous posts.

We have no official MSE definition of a regular competition. I don't consider this regular. The way it was posted in both boards with warnings about dupes seemed to be working fine and everyone was able to enter. Now it's been merged only a few people have seen it. Please can someone explain why it was moved?

I'm always willing to try and explain but can't this time as it wasn't me who merged or moved

the number of thanks may not reflect the number of people who have seen the thread this week it may just be that when entering a comp people usually thank the OP only so seeing it in a merged thread this week they may have realised they had already thanked the OP (that's just a thought though)

I think as the rules stand it would be classed as a regular - weekly entry via the same link,
at the moment the guidelines we have are that any comps that are weekly or monthly entry should be in the regs board

all input into the discussion is welcome though :)

Any link that is posted in the stickies on the regulars board is now deemed as a regular and as such it is transferred from the main board

this is a rule that has only recently been applied and in my opinion has been applied without any forethought

it appears that a certain select few have pandered for the changes and it has been made so without consulting the vast majority of mse users

due to this change I find both boards more confusing than ever :(

IE Advents where always on the main board now there are all over the place

some dailies and weekly's are now spread between both boards

and as there are no proper rules as to what makes a regular comp some poster's have resorted to making up there own rules

and I'm sorry Glad but I have to say that you started all this off my moving post's that where always on the main board into the regulars

bottom line if you want a comp to remain on the main board don't cross post a link to Gilla or PPD

You may well be right but I thought that in regulars people would thank even more than they do in the main section as it is the only way they can see if they have entered a particular month's competition. The enter button doesn't work in the regulars section as it is not on each post.

This particular competition is also quite annoying as being defined as a weekly as there is a 9 hour gap in between the competitions each week so if you did your weeklies first thing Monday morning each week you would always miss it.

The two competitions here and here have exactly the same link, so by your definition are "weekly entry via the same link". These are posted separately on the main board. From what you're saying they should be merged and moved to the regulars section, however I'm sure this won't happen and if it did there would be a lot of people complaining (obviously there would be some people would support it as well).

It's the inconsistency that doesn't help anyone.

Rules and guidelines regarding the regulars if they are on MSE they are very well hidden because I have never seen them ;)

if there are rules and guidelines why have certain comps remained on the main board for years without them being moved to the regulars board

let's be honest Glad it's just your interpretation of the rules and pressure from some of the thread maintainers and regulars that have resulted in threads being moved from the main board which have been there for years the result of which is now causing major confusion

at the moment I'm only following the rules for each board as they are set out, no one gave me a set of rules that had exceptions
and as twotimes has said the T K Maxx threads have been moved too and that wasn't me :)

what some people seem to want is a change to the current rules for the boards where some comps can be posted in the main board even if they are a weekly/monthly entry, so let's keep the discussion going and put it to the team in the new year

I agree some comps have been on the main boards anyway but that's not something I would be aware of when BGing unless I'd been told there were specific exceptions :)

can we retain the normal status quo untill then Glad? I don't mean what has happened recently but the way it has always been & can the discussion be put to the users of the thread as well as the team in the new year?

and maybe looked at from both sides of the coin, those who enter by end date and those who enter as & when then do a sweep of by end date after that. Most of the discussions seem to be about doing comps by end dates only.
If at first you don't succeed try, try, try again.
