got an idea if people would like to comment on it please :)
we could have a thread in GO for expired postals, it would mean people pm'ing a link to an individual post which can be moved into the thread in GO, now that's slightly more work for the BsG but I'd be happy to do them all if whoever starts the thread posts in the OP 'please pm Glad with expireds by clicking on the post number and sending a link for the post' :)

i wouldnt come across any expired to pm to bgs....normally im only at most 24hours behind newly posted comps in the thread, once ive written my post card or sent my text i click thanks and never go back except if its to find a post ive won form to quote it when i say thank you.
if your not a minimum of 3 days ahead of end date for postals there is no point really in wasitng a first class stamp an dhoping royal mail actually gets it there on time i find what with boomerang postcards etc.
  • i come across loads of expired comps in postals, i am normally 20/30 odd pages behind and am always kicking myself at all the fabby comps ive missed out on :rotfl:so thats not a problem to me, i always post up comps first for others to enter then forget about me:o bad habit i know

think i will need some help with sorting monthlies glad:rotfl:so many comps in there:eek: when i first set it up it took me a week to do, whenever you have finished in the regs then let me know and will see what can be done :D

only prob i would worry about the moving old comps (postals thread) is would they be then easy to find and search for (say if someone wanted to find a comp they had won from) and wouldnt that thread then get huge with the amount of expired comps or wouldnt that matter?

also would love to get some more feedback from the regular postal users, see they are being very quiet tonight!:rotfl:what do they think of this thread for expired comps, would it work?

it actually would help the prob a lot if it can be done

you'll get all the help you need :)

when you start a new postal thread, as well as asking people to pm me with expired links, you could also post a link to the thread in GO I use to put them in, I could even lock it and start another each time you start a new postal thread, if people were looking for an expired comp they could just search the thread in GO :)

    if as toniq says,

"Edit: Also the last 6 stickies are all ones that could be incorporated into Vg's guide and hence could disappear xxx That would def tidy up the main board xxx"

then the stickys could be as Glad said "all in one post/sticky" with "Please Read" as it would contain the

Comping Guide - Getting Started & Other FAQs,
How To Find Competitions Ending By Date
Free to enter competitions only please
Expiry Date Format - Urgent Please Read

    etc,

    which could leave a space/sticky
    (as in the postals sticky)

    for a

Up dated regularly Weekly/Monthly/Specials email Magazine Competitions

then as said in the sticky the headings for them
with us all updating the new ones each week in the same place,
it would make it easier to find them all each week/month for newbs/members etc
    i think :o

I really haven't forgotten about the sticky thing :D but wanted to run it past Andrea 1st as some were posted by MSE officials, but they've got so much on their plates this week with the spam email thing that I'm waiting until it settles down :)

Re: post 1449 I think you misunderstood the point I was making unless I didn't explain it very clearly.

I use Gilla's daily thred and the weekly thread & PPD's monthly thread as they are at the moment.

What I meant was that id fot example there was a sticky or thread for say all ITV comps, Company, Cosmo, Glamour etc it would be very difficult to keep track of where you were upto as there would be loads of comps posted under the one heading with different end dates.

I appreciate all the work the bg's put into tidying the threads and keeping the boards clean and working but the discussions all seem to be about entering comps by end date rather than entering what you can on the days they are posted and cleaning or catching up by using the end date search.

Having read back I think it better if I just stay out of any discussions about dailies etc from now on.

if thats aimed at me (im not sure who the post number you have given is by) sorry, i think we have a bit of a mix up. yes im talking about entering by end date, and yes i threw in that the likes of the daily itv game show comps couuld potentially go in one thread....but it would be one htread per game show in my mind..in the same way that i see the magazine threads working...exactly like korky has laid out in one of her posts........in the same way that the daily company monthly thread used to get posted before they changed the way they worked etc. im not at all suggesting all comps from company should go in one thread....people have pointed out why that would not work for non regular comps like that. they are not regular comps, they are not daily comps..they are one time entry comps.

Can we still think about the sub section for postals, that I was reading about a few pages ago. Esp once the people who use that thread lots realise theres a discussion going on.

I can also understand that maybe quite a few people haven't realised Regs, postal, mags, etc are being discussed atm. Would an actual seperate thread to discuss these issues in, make other forum users feel more involved. Atm, these discussions have taken over these thread completely, but its hard to follow now that they have gone on quite a few days, and other Qs or threads hae been merged in, iyswim

I love the idea of a postals sub section. It could run then virtually like a mini main board, as it is I very really venture onto that thread, as its so long, but I could skim a section with individual posts, only open ones that interested me, and use the enter button.

this would only work if the comps were tagged DAILY - MONTHLY - WEEKLY at the end of the title and comp end date at the front as is now on the main board
this is why I got in the habbit with the few comps I found of posting on main and putting the normal expiry format date, followed by - prize/enter - Daily/weekly at the end. Then I pop the info on the end of Gilla's thread. For example

E: 31/04 goodie bag of dog treats - prize daily

That way it they showed up, if you searched for daily or end date, or just kept up with the daily links thread.

I think that maybe adding the expiry even if we had to add guessed or estimate, to the title and then putting the Reg info at the end, would actually let us search the Regs board easier eventually, similair to how you can display the main now. Hopefully that would be a bnus if the board was to be more efficent/attractive to use and got busier.
My light may be on, but that doesn't always mean I am looking at the PC - I am far more likely to be cuddling or feeding Tianna atm, so please don't think I am ignoring you if I don't reply quickly :)

  • have said on postals that we are discussing this mamzie as many wont come in here, yes ideally i would love a sub section for postals as it would make it all so much tidier imo but if thats not possible then fair enough, not starting up new thread for another 2 weeks so plenty of time to discuss it all through with glad's help and others :D

or it could be a sticky on the regular board if they dont want more stickies on main. once we all remember to look there it wouldnt be so bad. but yes new ones updated each week in the same place is exactly what i have been trying to get across when i have been saying the weekly mag comps for example would be ideal for going in one thread instead of as individual posts.

if it was me who originally brought that idea up in this discussion im sorry, as it seems that has caused a heap of confusion which has at least in part led to the ruffled feathers and toys being thrown out of the pram that the whole discussion has caused.

i would really like to see the regular board being used more. with an official deffinition of regular.

whatever happens happens, ive just been trying to make myself understood and now that at least one person has finally got exactly what ive been trying to say re daily/weekly comps being in one thread which is bumped instead of in lots of different posts ill keep quiet on that aspect.

thank you glad for discussing it and for sorting the regs board and trying to make it better and more lively. i wasnt working well, therefore it was broken and did need looking at and fixing, and im sorry some people dislike that. i hope your not getting too many nasty pms over the matter.

Glad, I keep hitting thanks, but I do want to reinterate how grateful I am for this discussion. It feels like I may start entering from different comps areas next years, that I have hardly used at all, so a huge thank you for your help, patience and persistance.

thanks PPD, its weird, but when I read your suggestion earlier, I actually felt like I could restart entering postals that way. I did do them for a few weeks, but it was the looking for ones I liked, and getting lost in the thread that kinda made me stop. I am a mad speedskimmer through the main forum, so that I just enter for what I would like, rather than every comp. Sorry that you are missing out by helping us all enter.

Ahhhhhh, do you mean like the answers for the advents are done each day??? So in the sticky it would have a setup like the advents/dailies/weeklies/monthlies and then the answers would all be put in one post by one person each week??

(I'm just going to search for last years advent thread to see if I can find an example, will edit when I find it!)

Edit: Found an example, do you mean like Amilucky?'s post here?
