I'm just throwing some thoughts in here so please feel free to talk about it :)

As there is a regular comps sub board it should be used for regular comps, if it was used consistently then serious compers would get used to checking it as well as checking the main board

however if a comp can only be entered once, even though a regular prize (daily, weekly etc) is given out then I think that should be on the main board,
with the regular comps board kept for comps people have to enter daily, weekly etc

    hope that made sense :):)

I agree with that setup, but I think it would be a great idea if there was a section in the Daily/Weekly threads (if Gilla agrees) where the 'enter once to be in all draws' threads can go so everyone can find them, as it's so frustrating to come across them when entering by end date and only be in the last draw or so.

Obviously this would only work if people do send the link to Gilla or add a post onto to the end of the Daily thread (the latter probably being the best option incase Gilla doesn't get on everyday, it means less pressure on Gilla to find the time to update the thread)

I'm starting to think that maybe monthlies would be better on the main board being posted afresh as a new competition each month? (To be honest, I reckon this would work better than the current setup for dailies and weeklies too.) Some of the threads in Regulars are years and years old, and being locked, they can't be updated without a whole lot of hassle for both the person wanting to update, and you, as the BG's, having to unlock and relock afterwards. (I'm not sure the Regular threads should be locked off anyway to be honest, I stand by my post from a while ago that stated it makes the Regular board seem very closed off, and I think it probably encourages people to post on the main board instead as they realise that answers might need to be updated each month and can't be easily when the thread is locked.)

I think as this is still causing questions to be asked it needs to be looked at and clarified as no one really knows exactly what is supposed to happen with regular threads and things doesn't appear to be happening the same way for everything of a similar nature, hence the confusion.

i tend to disagree, those comps will get lost on the main board and by the time the competiton has finished people could miss out on lots of prizes.
because my heavy work schedule i just tend to do ending tomorrow
i know thats my fault but unless you are constantly checking the main board for updates which i dont have time to do those comps would get lost.

i have asked this before but i would love another sticky for comps that is best to enter early eg radio comps where they may phone you.
2 examples are the kissmas and mixemup where you really need to enter early to get the better chance of winning

    that's something I hadn't thought of :)
maybe something like 'daily - enter once to be in all draws' should be in the title?
and would they be better in the regular comps board then?

I'm not sure if it already is but this could be added to the comping guide :)

I'm not sure why they're locked? and I can see why in that case people tend to post them on the main board, but having them unlocked on the regular board wouldn't create any more posts than if they're on the regular board and being posted on, and as you say it would encourage more people over there :)

I've just had a look at the regular board and yes the last page on there has threads from 2005! I'll work my way through them and see what can be moved to GO :)

There's some previous discussion about this starting from post number 665 earlier on in this thread if it's of any help to anyone, there's some suggestions from myself and other people as to the regular board.

There must be a way that would work for everyone's way of comping. No one way of comping works for all of us, so it's important to take everyone into mind when thinking about how to make it work. I mix it up myself for variety and sometimes (attempt to) keep up as they're posted, and other times enter by end date (majority of my comping is done this way as even though I spend a lot of time on here I just can't keep up! :o) so I've seen it working both ways, so my suggestions were ways I think would work for everyone and not cause any problems (that I could think of at the time anyway).

it was a only a thought and I wanted people to come up with their thoughts like you have so options can be discussed :)

Thank you :D it's really good to know that we're being listened to.

I'm not sure where would be the best place for the enter once and be entered into all draws to be honest, probably still the main board as some people might enter more than once by autopilot on the regulars? I don't suppose it would matter as long as they were linked to in the dailies thread really.

Another thing I had thought of, but it would take a lot of relying on people to do it (such as letting Gilla/PPD know about regulars to add to the lists at the moment does) is to have some very specific wording somewhere in the posts for 'dailies', 'weeklies', 'monthlies' and 'enter once etc...' so they can be easily searched for by said phrase? (Searching for 'day' at the moment throws up lots of threads not actually dailies, because they have the word day somewhere in the thread, mainly in T&C's or questions/answers) It could be added in a subsequent post by anyone who notices that it's not in the first one too, so the thread would still show up in search. I think it would prove too complicated though as it can be hard to get people to do the end date right when all the others on the board are the same way, so I don't think everyone would take to it. But if it was done and everyone stuck to it, it would help everyone, including Gilla and PPD as all that would be needed is a quick search. (Although it depends on how many threads there are with the 12 page limit on search, maybe not such a good idea actually, scrap that! :rotfl:)

I'm in no doubt that you'll be losing the will to live after the first few pages over on the regulars board, so I wish you lots and lots of luck with it!! :p

    Just a quickie from me....

If you go into advanced search, then you can select to search in just the titles not through the whole post. This can help bring up less comps that are outside what you are looking for.

Finally a huge thanks to Glad for looking into stickies and reg.
My light may be on, but that doesn't always mean I am looking at the PC - I am far more likely to be cuddling or feeding Tianna atm, so please don't think I am ignoring you if I don't reply quickly :)

ok so it doesnt have to be a sticky but couldn't ongoing comps move over to the regular board at least theyre in a place where its more suitable, there doesnt seem to be much action there and i might even suggest comps like coke kinect, kissmas mcvities etc go there too
    what do guys think?

    I won't get into the whole "regular comps" debate right now, but some of the points raised have got me thinking;

For the competitions that are "Enter once (and only once) and you are included in the current draw and all following draws", if these were posted in the normal section with the end date as the date of the first draw, what problems would this throw up?

Possibly newer forum members would miss the competition if it was posted before they joined. Possibly if you went away for a bit you might miss the whole competition. This way would however mean that both people entering by newly posted and people entering by end date would be included in all of the draws.
