I think I could get five meals for a family of 2 adults and 2 children. They're not enormous meals but there's plenty.
1. 200g of mince made into bolognese with lentils and lots of vegetables. Serve half with spaghetti and salad and garlic bread.
2. Turn the other half into a lasagna. Serve with extras as above (or perhaps a soup starter).
3. 200g of mince made into savoury mince mix. Serve half over baked potatoes with lots of veg on the side.
4. Add chilli seasoning and beans to the rest. Serve with brown rice, chapattis and a dollop of yoghurt.
5. Make a minestrone soup. Turn the last of the mince into mini meatballs, padded out with breadcrumbs. Brown them and then add them to the soup. Serve with hm foccaccia.Mortgage started on 22.5.09 : £129,600Overpayments to date: £3000June grocery challenge: 400/6000 -
Wow - some good ideas here. I'm keen on making it go further as I think we eat too much meat and not enough veg. Also wanted to prove to DH that it doesn't have to be all meatSo little money - so much time :mad:0

Normally if I buy 500g of mince I divide it up into 4 as soon as I get it home and freeze each bit separately. And from each bit of 125g I can make a meal feed 4 adults. So I suppose 16 dinners for adults out of 500g???
I do-
bolognese, add grated carrots, red lentils and mushrooms
chilli, add soya mince and extra beans eg value baked beans rinsed
We eat a lot of chilli so always make loads! We have it mixed with pasta, topped with cheese and baked in the oven- mexican bake! In wraps; just with rice or cous cous; with a baked potato.
Before MSE though the 500g would only probably have lasted for one meal!!Official DFW Nerd no. 082! :cool:Debt @ 01/01/2014 £16,956 Debt now: £0.00 :j

I feel so guilty reading threads like this, there are 4 of us, 2 adults 2 teenagers, and 500g of mince would only do us the one meal.M.A.C.A.W member number 39
