Hmm, doedeers post does perhaps not give the best outlook. I can appreciate doedeers statement on some levels as some of the things you read on here are plain and simple lies about Santander/A&L. However i am on this site 1. to further my own financial situation and 2. to assist any Santander/ A&L customers i can while on the way.

As an A&L member of staff I have only recently moved onto the Santander model. If any of you bank with A&L, spare a thought for us. Our paper load has roughly tripled since Santander took over. In terms of training if i was to move to another bank i would have a training period etc before serving customers. With this sort of takeover that is impossible. At A&L we have to keep branches open to serve customers while learning an entirely new way of doing things.

Whatever company you work for, imagine going for a job with the opposition and instead of an induction you get some rough paper guides and told to get on with it. With this type of takeover thats what happens. The only other option would be to close branches for roughly 5 weeks ( estimate taken from the time a new start has to pick things up) and the re-open again ready to go. Its just not feasible.

If anyone has any questions or problems about SAntander/A&L i will give as much info as im able. Not advice as over this medium thats not possible but facts etc.

*Quick edit to say i used to work with HSBC to so can give what i can on that front to*

I have once been a Santander customer, never again.

Customer Service is awful, they do not care about problems and try to pass the 'buck' many times I have called them on there 0845 number.

In branch, there is always queues, 6 counters and 2 members of serving staff on!
When you are lucky enough to get to the counter staff are most unhelpful and do not show any respect to problems you may have with your account.

I would steer clear of Santander, have been there and will not be going back to them, awful awful bank!

I'd almost forgotten we'll have their systems thrown at us. Even more reason to escape...

There isnt a specific length of time needed to wait before applying. This app will be credit scored and your acceptance will be based on that. Ofcourse if you havent managed your account well in the last few months that can go against you.

In regards to which CC, what do you want to use it for? Going abroad then Zero. Purchases or balance transfer then normal Santander card.

Hi - thanks for answering and good to hear from a current Santander employee. I want the card for going abroad so guess a Zero is the best to go for? I have been running my in credit preferred account spotlessly since opened - salary of well over a £1000 in every month and never overdrawn. Unfortunately got into a spot of bother 3 years ago so some adverse showing at that time (2007). But since late 2007 everything on my credit file showing 0's, no late payments etc etc. I was surprised Santander opened the account for me to be honest, i was expecting a knock back. I'd previously been using a co op cashminder (again never overdrawn) but wanted a full current account again with proper debit card instead of one masquerading as an electron which was what i had with cashminder. . In your opinion, do you think it's a bit early for me to apply for the Zero (in view of the adverse from 3 year's ago) or should I wait a bit longer. Yr advice is much appreciated.

doedeer - tell your bosses I want my overtime payments from 7 years ago please  the payments that were ADMITTED i was owed by Abbey's head office but your lot just couldnt be bothered to pay me.
Oh yes, and as well please tell them that I'm still waiting for the false information on my credit file that the FOS ordered A&L to remove nearly a YEAR ago to be removed.
Then maybe I can get myself an account with a half-decent bank...
