If Santander Is SO Bad...

Why do people start threads about going with them

and

why doesn't everyone just shut their accounts, move their mortgages and savings and then they will have to sit up and listen...??...

It is possible to MAKE them improve if people unify.

because people see their competitive accounts and offerings and take them up on it. They advertise these offerings well.
  • I get you're point. there seems to be a large divide about santander. some people like them whilst others hate them. maybe instead of opening new branches all the time they should just improve the ones they allready have.

It's like TalkTalk. You end up with more pounds in the bank in exchange for a service that could be done better by a rabid orang-outang.

But TalkTalk have as many customers as they do because they advertise their deals very well and coax people in with promises of financial gains.

  • Never had any problems with them. Maybe I’m a simpleton and easy to please.

But then, compared with some of the posters here, my financial affairs are simple. ;););)

There are none so blind as those that won't see. People probably don't realise how bad their customer service is until it's too late. Many of the complaints on here are from people wanting to leave and santander not closing their accounts or releasing their money.

Maybe because other banks aren't THAT much better.

And maybe because MOST of their customers don't experience the problems that are posted on here

    Bit like flying Ryanair possibly?
  • Already done but no doubt they will buy someone else over who I have an account with and the battle will start again.
I have a deep burning indifference

I just spent an hour in a Santander branch trying, but failing, to close my current account. The account was formerly an Alliance & Leicester Premier Current Account, but has been switched over to Santander.

The cashier was unable to explain why the account couldn't be closed. His advice was to travel several miles to a Santander branch that used to be part of Alliance & Leicester, on the grounds that the staff might know what to do.

I had tried to close the account over the phone yesterday. The first CS person said he could do this, but half way through the process I was cut off. The second CS person said this couldn't be done - I had to go into a branch.

    I despair really.

Really? That's shocking. RBS and Lloyds TSB will close your account simply by sending a signed letter, and Bank of Scotland will close an account simply with a phone call.

I'm doing my bit - I won't be opening a Santander account until MSE is filled with threads on how excellent Santander are :p
