I will admit that there seems to be an influx of newbies ( I was one in March). But if I had received the same reaction as some I have seen on here [STRIKE]lately[/STRIKE] Today. I would have run screaming straight into the arms of the nearest DCA, or slit my wrists.
Please an appeal from me, Lets treat everyone at face value. We all make mistakes. Remember Martins words We are here for Mutual Support and Help, Not Judgement. OK so we are classed as a touchy feely huggy thread. Lets keep it that way. If you want to get rough, keep it in the discussion board or the arms.
I have posted on one newbies thread that if anyone gets heavy, I will press the abuse button. They may be a wannabe troll for all I know?, but they haven't done anything wrong yet.
So why shoot first and ask Questions later. I am paranoid enough for all of us, but lets keep paranoia away from DFW it doesn't belong here.
I will be watching.
Regards to you all, Handyman123.
Are you a moral crusader in the outside world as well ?0 -
Very good advice. Berating people isn't going to help them.MSE mum of DS(7), and DS(4) (and 2 adult DCs as well!)DFW Long haul supporters No 210:snow_grin Christmas 2013 is coming soon!!! :xmastree:0

I guess that sometimes, people do need to see the error of their ways, but no-one should be made to look or feel stupid. I've always had very positive responses on here and I do try to spend some time each day, returning the favour. But I know what you mean Handy, although I have to say, the "Reclaiming charges" and "Loans" boards are worse. Some people on there are utterly rude!"I may be many things but not being indiscreet isn't one of them"0

Unfortunately we need to be realistic in that there will always be people that attempt to distrupt or be abusive on the boards - it's very difficult to stop that. The best thing that people can do when they see the abuse is to report it and then simply ignore the trolls.
I think we can all still be proud that there is only a minority of posts where there is genuine abuse and the vast majority of MSE posters are kind hearted and are attempting to help others.0 -
I cant be the only long term poster that has seen a massive increase in apparently `bewildered` new posters asking what can only be desribed as stupid questions....
can i ?0 -
As a relatively new user I have been shocked by the downright nastiness in the responses to some new posters, it seems as though some people on here are just chomping at the bit, waiting for someone to say something they can jump all over. It isn't nice, it isn't helpful and it is actually rather pathetic. However, there are some posts from newbies that just leave me with my mouth gaping open, or absolutely foaming:mad: That said, I just do not post a response and don't bother to 'follow up' on the post. Although I have been on here a relatively short time, I am seeing the same questions, queries and observations being made over and over again, I would guess that a lot of the responders are reacting to that as much as anything else.
There always seems to be a nice person who comes along after a snotty response, I wish I could be that person sometimes, but often just don't know enough to give constructive advice, soooo.....thanks you to the nice people:)0 -
