The reason I change them at 5MM is often because I may not get another chance to so I do it when I am free, often with 5MM however I can assure you that they are reused, often going to the Christian Charity :)
That is either absurd, or nonsense. 5mm is still pretty much classed as a new tyre, hell some new tyres only start with 7mm.

I've driven a Mondeo Ghia-X to well over 200,000 miles, I know what they are like ;) It was one of them "rubbish" four-cylinder Zetecs too...... My one was pretty mint too.

If you don't think you have a chance in the next, possibly 40,000 miles depending on tyre make, then I think you seriously need to take a few days off of your job. Either that or you don't have the blindest clue what you are talking about.

    Regards,
    Andy

With the amount of driving I do daily (6-8 hours) and motorway miles I do not have the time with that and work.
And think it's up to me when I change my tyres, is that any business of yours??!

I think I know a lot more about Mondeo's than you do, specially the V6 ones ;)
Considering my autobox should have died along time ago, but I guess that depends on how you treat it.

    Enough said, debate over ;)

I really, really, really doubt that. I mean, really, really, really, really, really, doubt that. I have a LOT of knowledge of Ford Mondeos, infact, most Fords, seeing as what I do day-in, day-out to earn a living.......

If you're doing motorway miles, your tyres will last LONGER, surely you understand this concept?

  • An autobox "should" die at 200,000 miles?

Where on earth did you get that idea from?

In this case, it's a Ford CD4E, which reguarly dies before 50,000. That's why nobody will touch automatic Mondeos, and they are worth a lot less than the manual counterparts.

Not all automatics are poor, but these Ford autoboxes from the 1990s are awful, the CD4E and the CVT, both hopeless.

I have in front of me an empty 1 litre Castrol Magnatec container. This is the oil which I always use (for the past six years) in my Ford Mondeo.
    It is - Fully Synthetic, 5W-30 A3/B4.
It is in my opinion very good value, and my car seems to love it.

My understanding was that the majority of Fords requires a fuel efficient oil - ACEA grade A1. You might want to check your reg on the Castrol website.

I'm not saying you are wrong for your specific engine but a quick search on various Mondeo Models shows A1 oil for all those searched

I do think this is a bit extreme. Assuming an new tyre will start with 8mm of tread that means you have to find the time and the money to change the tyres within the time taken to accrue 3mm of wear.

On the next set of tyres you will have to change again with only 3mm of wear but had you kept the original tyres you would have been down to 2mm (still legal).

So effectively you are spending twice as long (and twice as much) as neccessary changing tyres - changing the tyres twice in a period where only 1 change is needed.

Strange behaivour for someone who is allegedly short of time.

I check my car weekly under the engine, by this I check the oil level and all other fluids and topped up screen wash and I use a lot of it driving on the motorway in the rain!

My car has no leaks and hasn't got any to show.
I did have a radiator leak last month, but this was fixed.

Although my Mondeo is on a 2000 plate and nearly has 100.000 miles on it, I think you would be very surpised of it's condition.
It has been maintained to a very high standard with no dents and/marks on it, and the ones which were there have been repaired to a high standard.

The bumpers do not have a crack or mark on them, like many Mondeos you will see around.

The inside of the car is like new, the leather seats have no wear or tear and the carpet was only professional valeted 6 months ago.

Everything works, no electrics failed or failing.

All this including my Automatic box is still running like a horse with no slow changing of gears.

My tyres have at least 5 MM of tread before I change them.

The car has had £1000s spent on it since I bought it over 3 years ago now!

    pmsl,more fool you £1000's on a 10yr old mondeo.
