I didn't know that, seems that the bloke at my local Kwikfit didn't know that either, as he told me this after 2002, when I asked about the oil they where going to put in my wifes Mondeo with a Zetec engine, I asked if the oil was of the correct spec for these cars, which need a specific oil to stop sticky valves, and he replied that we use Ford oil because we are owned by Ford.

    So RapidFit are KwikFit?...

Now I know why they attempted to rip me off for a MOT to the tune of £700 almost

How did they try and "rip you off"?

RapidFit is a name used by Fords authorised repairers to provide all-makes servicing, under a different "banner" to that of "Ford."

KwikFit is a firm owned by French venture capitalists PAI Partners.

    Andy

Posted here ages ago, however to give a brief, I went there for a oil and filter change and they gave me a 'free' walk around exam on the car.

They advised me I had a major oil leak on the bottom of the engine, which I clearly did not as the car has never needed any topping up!

They advised me I needed a new wheel bearing, although there was no noise or driving effected

They advised me I need two new tyres, which clearly I did not

I refused to have the work carried out, the guy working there saying it was in a 'dangerous' condition.

It was driven home and booked into my local family garage for it's MOT the next day.

It was passed without ANY faults and only needing a new indictor bulb as it was flashing white.

Would never advise using RapidFit, they are conmen

A tyre that passes the MOT is not necessarily a safe one ;) I wouldn't personally drive a car tyre down to the MOT limits, something to bear in mind. Remember the MOT is the absolute basic minimum, from a book that was written when cars could manage 60mph tops, and had brake drums all round.....

Leak could have been Power-steering fluid, autobox oil or a host of other fluids I doubt you reguarly check, on Mondeos they ALL leak power-steering fluid. End of. lol

    Andy

I check my car weekly under the engine, by this I check the oil level and all other fluids and topped up screen wash and I use a lot of it driving on the motorway in the rain!

My car has no leaks and hasn't got any to show.
I did have a radiator leak last month, but this was fixed.

Although my Mondeo is on a 2000 plate and nearly has 100.000 miles on it, I think you would be very surpised of it's condition.
It has been maintained to a very high standard with no dents and/marks on it, and the ones which were there have been repaired to a high standard.

The bumpers do not have a crack or mark on them, like many Mondeos you will see around.

The inside of the car is like new, the leather seats have no wear or tear and the carpet was only professional valeted 6 months ago.

Everything works, no electrics failed or failing.

All this including my Automatic box is still running like a horse with no slow changing of gears.

My tyres have at least 5 MM of tread before I change them.

The car has had £1000s spent on it since I bought it over 3 years ago now!

That is a waste for something that has many thousands of miles left!

I dont doubt these quick fix places trying to con people, they do it all virtually all the time.

The reason I change them at 5MM is often because I may not get another chance to so I do it when I am free, often with 5MM however I can assure you that they are reused, often going to the Christian Charity :)
