Ok, now that I am on a decent computer I can clarify - taken from the Castrol website FAQ:

Any know how much they will charge for extra oil, as I fancy taking advantage of this (just really for an engine flush) but will need to buy more oil for the change, and dont fancy getting stung £14 a litre (or whatever silly price they can think of)

When I entered the reg for my 1.9 diesel it said up to 7 litres and after you may be charged extra. Not many cars have that capacity. They also may charge you if extra labour is required to access the filter/sump plug but they will let you know of these charges before starting the work.

Remember to use a good quality oil in your car engine, as this is the 'Blood' of the car as it were.

It simply is not worth using a cheap rubbish oil, unless the car is already worn and/or you don't intend to keep it very long

Well he would say that wouldn't he?! All you have to do to make it worthwhile is buy the oil cheap in drums and you're in profit. They don't even take a whole man hour to change it.

Cheap oil does not necessarily mean bad quality. I have managed to get some good oils cheap like Gulf Tec Plus 10w-40 semi-synthetic 4 litres £8.99, Shell Helix Ultra fully synthetic 5w-40 4 litre £9.99 (apparently £14.99 for 1 litre in Shell petrol stations).

Only thing when stocking up on oil cheap is to be careful you don't over-do it as ideally you want to use it within a couple of years.

    I completely agree anewman.

I was referring to the 'cheap' oil as to the oil, not the price :)

But I agree, I have seen loads of oil that is good quality at cheap prices :D

Same here, but I need about 10 litres, so thinking this may work out cheaper than DIY, but it all depends on how much they are going to charge me for extra litres. (Came up as being about £28 for a change for me, kerching!!)

Out of interest what motor are you driving? 10 litres!! I think my fuel tank is marginally bigger than your sump - Is that something to brag about? haha

I used to have my oil changes done this way a few years ago, until they crossthreaded my sump plug that is.

It is a good deal though, kwikfit are owned by ford and used to give you the option of Mobil1, the main reason it is so cheap is because they can buy the oil in such large quantities, barrels, so it is a lot cheaper, it is also a chance for the garage to have a quick look around and mention that your exhaust is rusty, or your brakes need done, etc.

    RapidFit is Ford, not Kwikfit.
