I would book VERY central london so the kids do not get tired and bored traveling to and from the outskirts of london.

    Hi again

    thanks for all the advice

Have checked out ALL the names and links given - but most (all in fact) still say max. per room is 4 persons

best option so far seems like the Citadines unless any others come up...

citadines in South Kensington - how would that location be do you think? Don;t know London to know if its central or not...

I tried booking the Citadines for two adults and three kids and got:

Error: You can not book more than four people per single booking room

Also Travelodge will not take a family of five, in fact it is almost impossible to find any hotels that will take a family of five with small children in the UK.

You have to book a two bedroom apartment, to accommodate 5.
The Trafalgar Square Citadines definitely have apartments that sleep 6, unfortunately the South Kensington one doesnt

haven't tried the trafalgar sq. one yet - but rang south kensington up and they will sleep five in a one bed apartment (child on a roll up bed) but thats ok for me.

Is south kensington a good location or should I go for Trafalgar??

Trafalgar is much more central. Many of the top sites are easily walkable. I've been past the Citadine's there and it looks very very smart. Is it affordable?
I'm in the same boat as you with 3 kids. Finding family rooms to take us is a nightmare. Why don't we have rollaway/ campbeds for small kids at a charge of say £10/night as they do in the US, where it's only $10 (little more than a fiver these days)?

South kensington is as good as place as any to stay. You have the Natural History, Science and V&A museums on the doorstep (free entry) walking distance of the Kings Road (great for boutique shops and people watching) and only 10 mins to central london via the tube

I too have 3 kids, aged 10, 3 and 2. Finding rooms for that will sleep a family of 5 thru the net can be a nightmare. I usually check the prices for a hotel for a family of 4 on the net, find the cheapest deal then call the hotel directly and explain that I want to put the 5 of us in one room esp as our youngest still shares a bed with his parents? I have never had any hotel refuse to date and a the 2nd duoble bed, sofa bed can sleep 3 children anyway. I normally use innkeepers lodge, holiday inn or the marriot. Make sure you get a name of whoever has agreed though.
