London Zoo is awful............ One of the worst Zoo's about - although I have not been for a few years .....am not likly too either - bored frustrated animals in cramped conditions.... If you want Zoo's go to Longleat !

Brick lane (Very near where I work.... worse luck!) is awash with curry houses and a good bagel shop but hardly for young kids! Prostitutes / muggings / filthy etc. Go during the day if you must - would not take my kids there though! Plus they have dug the whole road up for a new gas main..... 6 months after they laid the new cobble stones! Dont ya just love em!

I've bumped this page to help Spikey. Some of the tips might be useful for his trip to London.

Some ideas that my nine year son loves that are either totally free or free for kids.

The RAF Museum at Hendon is great. Lots of planes and wartime stuff to see, plus a hands-on gallery teaching kids about how aircraft are designed, fly, navigate etc. They normally have some special events on at half-term. It's not in central London but their website says its 7 minutes walk from Colindale station on the Northern Line. Free for everyone. http://www.rafmuseum.org.uk/

Lots of wartime stuff at the Imperial War Museum. My nine year old loves the submarines exhibition. Free to everyone though a special exhibtion on Great Escapes, which we enjoyed, is £6 for adults. http://london.iwm.org.uk/

HMS Belfast. £7 adults but children free. http://hmsbelfast.iwm.org.uk/

Science Museum has great hands-on exhibits and is free to all except for special exhibitions. http://www.sciencemuseum.org.uk/

I have to attend a course in April at a weekend 22/23 I think. The course is close to Regents Street. Anyone help me find some decent reasonably priced accommodation. Problem is I cannot use the Underground as it freaks me out. I do not know London at all so the closer to Regents Street the better. Anyone even tell me where Regents Street is would be most helpful.

    Jazzy,

Regent street runs from Picadilly Circus up to Oxford Circus.
There is a very reasonable hotel called the Regent Palace Hotel, which is situated on Glasshouse Street off Regent Street. THey often have offers. Its basic but clean and ideally located. You can check out their website http://www.regentpalacehotel.co.uk/ and also check laterooms.com for their offers
