    Hmmmm.

I applied for the First account last week. Today I received 3 letters:

-dated 14 August - we are progressing with your application

-dated 16 August - a Telephone PIN which can only be used from today

-dated 16 August - form to set up password for online services

Yesterday I received a Telephone Banking PIN and a letter confirming that they are progressing my application
Today I received a form to set up password to set up online services and another one to say that I've failed their credit scoring (computer says no).

Pity, I have no adverse information on my Equifax credit file and Coventry confirmed they only searched Equifax. Although I have had five credit searches in the last six months and opened two new credit card accounts this year so that's probably put them off. I'll try again in six months and shan't be applying for anything between now and then.

Although having said that what I'll be more likely to do is apply for a Capital One Progress in October and an HSBC Current Account in April. Reason for the Progress is I sill haven't been approved for any credit cards that search Experian (other than Vanquis) since the... nasties. I probably won't even use it, just want to see where my Experian file stands.

Good luck CIF! Let us know the outcome :o

rang them and ity is pending and "awaiting notice"

the security letter and telephone pin is automatically generated and means nothing

I may do but I don't really have much more information to give - my bank statements show erratic income from multiple sources (wage + DLA + tax credits), I don't really have much savings (as I'm paying off my credit cards), and I'm only a tenant.

Ah well. Weird thing is there's no trace of any credit search or unrecorded enquiry on either Experian, Call Credit, or Equifax. Odd...

The Gentlemen's club said - NO!

I applied for a current account with The Northern Bank and got declined. When I rang up it was because I am not resident in Northern Ireland.

Glad it wasnt a "score" issue.

TBH I would've declined an application from me - five credit searches in six months and two new credit cards with relatively high balances.

I'll just wait it out and try for HSBC in April

But they have a branch in London and their T&Cs don't prohibit Englishmen from opening an account

Well when I rang up about the decline they said you have to be resident in Northern Ireland. It went no further than does he live there? "No".

    Then we say Nayyyyyy!
