  • Thank you all, I have just found out that the son of a friend of mine is still stuck on the outskirts of harrogate. He is on coach, He had been to a football match in newcastle. The coach could not have got down the same way as me. That would have stuck easily on that road. It seems the road they are on, there is a dip and a steep hill going up the other side. The traffic is struggling going up that hill and getting stuck. Made worse by abandoned cars that have run out of petrol. People have been getting off the coach to help other cars that are in difficulty and to give them a push. He is only 6 miles from home. They have gone 5miles in 5 hours so far.

The police have just put out another warning. and to only travel in emergencies. Put the ITV news on now. Its a nightmare. You will see whats like up here x x x

She was originally on a B road netween Rippon and Harrogate (yep...I know ;))

No, if you know what you're doing, and you don't mind a calculated gamble, and you can handle losing the bet, B roads aren't actually no-go areas. I once cut 3 hours off a 20 minute journey by dodging along a [STRIKE]B road[/STRIKE] (actually I've just checked and it's unclassified).

They downside of them is that they're not gritted - but at the particular time the main roads hadn't been gritted either, so nothing lost there - even so it did have its moments...

It still took 1hr 40 though...

Harrogate and surrounding areas were gridlocked. And I mean gridlocked.

Wagons stuck on hills, Cars abandoned, and there were lots. It appears Harrogate was taken by surprise with the snow.

This would be the snow that has been forecast in some quarters for a couple of months now... <insert rolling eyes smiley here>
Its a good job I know the little rat runs or I would still be there. The road I was on is still at a standstill.

I set of from Newcastle at 2.30pm and just got in. But at least I am home now.

Going to look at the 4 wheel drive tomorrow. And see if he will do me a deal. Getting fed up now. x x x x x LOL

Well good on you getting in. Just remember, a 4x4 doesn't make you invulnerable. It just means the fuzz stick the "Police aware" sticker on the bottom of your car...

And in case you read this tomorrow - it is now snowing up here. Not heavy, more middling - but the sky is wall-to-wall cloud, so it will probably go on for some time.

    Take care...

I'd reckon at least 4 inches came down overnight - so be careful if you're up this way...

  • No work today, I did set off, but the roads around Otley were really bad so thought better of it. I got a phone call to say that the med centre was closed today so now sat at home nice and warm.

Just have to wait and see what tomorrow brings. x x x x x
