Hope you're feeling a bit better Wol, and if your back is giving you a hard time, just try and potter around, keep moving (slowly and steadily) as much as you can. Sitting or lying for long periods will be uncomfortable and not good in the long run. I had back problems a year ago and I was fine whilst in bed asleep but as soon as I tried to change position or get up ---OUCH!

Hope the guinea pigs are ok.

Any improvement at all yet Wol? A compressed disc does sound pretty serious - hoping the chiro can help on Monday to save the need for an op. For me chiropracters would be on my list of useful people to marry - along with a builder. Oh and a mechanic. If I ever find someone who can do them all he'd better watch out as I'll be making a bee line for him :D

Glad you liked the flowers - although I confess that I felt a little guilty reading your post as it probably meant that it was an extra time you had to raise yourself and get to the front door.

I know its going to be near impossible with everything but do try to not get frustrated about your back and even more stressed - as it sounds like that will only contribute to the problems.

    Hugs and take care. smiley-hug005.gif

  • Er MSE people is any one near Wol? I am a little worried?

Can someone visit/phone? and let us know if she is ok?

I think I am relatively near myself I wish I could drive. However I can get the train

Someone let me know what they think please?

Until Wol goes and sees the chiropractor on Monday, there is no news. Once that's done, and the extent of the problem is known, everything can be taken from there.

Hi All........thank you for your concern and well wishes...I'm afraid I've not been on as I haven;t been able to get to/sit at the PC - however I have had the mobile with me at all times in case I get into difficulties.....and have had some lovely offers of help if I need it thank you kind people :A:A.

I have some happy news to report. :j:j:j....Yay.......I have some mobility today. The last 3 days have been a bit worrying. I haven;t been able to move around much at all....after 3 or 4 shuffling steps, (or even just moving my arms or shoulders whilst standing or sitting still) and with no warning, I;d suddenly get a very painful spasm in my left hip/middle back/left knee and fall over....not good when navigating the stairs or carrying a cup of tea ...or trying get a piggie out of their cage to give them meds ....(:shhh::shhh:..or even sitting on the loo :(:rotfl:)

The duty GP who rang me on friday said it sounded like the muscle was trapping the nerve and was in spasm rather than a full out compressed disc (in the latter case apparently the pain would have been continuous) and to rest/relax rather than get mobile and to use strong painkillers/antinflammatories.

So I have spent most of the time remaining relatively motionless ....and not sleeping very well at all :(

I managed to drag myself (very slowly and gingerly) to the "ever-so-helpful" and caring local chemist yesterday afternoon to pick up the prescribed diclofenac (they don;t deliver on saturdays and received the prescription from the surgery too late to deliver on friday...and obviously none of them were prepared to travel the 200 yds up the road themselves on their way home to drop it in ;))....and whether it's the tablets or just that I have rested, (or the vast quantities of deep heat applied) the spasm disappeared today as suddenly as it arrived.. and I am able to shuffle around this afternoon without fear of sudden collapse..(although I now ache all over) ...hence can actually sit at the PC for a bit.:D

Thank goodness..hopefully the chiropracter can now "secure the area" and I should be fully mobile tomorrow......and be able to keep all the appointments this week with the hand consultant, the clients, the builders and the vet.

This has been quite a frightening (and sobering) experience.....I have thought long and hard about things I am going to need to change to prevent this happening again.....starting today:D...

Back tomorrow sometime with an update.

Just be very careful and don't use the respite from pain to "overuse" the area and make it worse. The anti-inflammatories are not curing anything after all - you will need time to heal.

So no sitting for long periods at the computer...

As many can attest - health is no. 1. Without it, you've got very little.

Wol~As I often suffer from back spasms out of the blue (actually in ,middle of an episode at the mo) I find that yes they do go as quickly as they came(there is a god).Stress can contribute.
I take anyway balclofen which is a muscle relaxant(every day :( ) & when spasms are really difficult add in diazapam & naproxen.
Your diclofenic will do much the same as the naproxen.

Anyway take it easy as much as you can & dont overdo it for a few day at least.

That was a lovely post Buffy :)
