I have a Sky+HD and movie pack - happy with service, if not with price.
Family keep falling out about watching more than one Sky channel at a time. Was considering multiroom but it's an extra £10.25 a month, and box cost of £49 + install of £60 - so £109 install and £120 every year. Got me thinking of purchasing the Freesat service from Sky - £175 all in so that we can watch Sky freesat channels rather than multiroom.
Any guidance about whether
a) Sky will be happy with this and let me do it?
b) better to haggle on the multiroom - and get a new 1TB box?
c) Any other strategies?
Cheers

Eh? But you can get !!!!!! already. Just cancel your sub, and the existing set up and viewing card will give you all the FTA channels.
Buying !!!!!! just duplicates what you've already got-second dish, LNB, cabling and box.
Bear in mind that after cancelling your sub you'll lose all the PVR facilities, unless you pay £10 a month to keep them. If not you can switch to a Freesat PVR instead-a straight box swap.
You can always get some more boxes for next to nothing (freegle/ebay/car boot sale) if you want to use them in other rooms. No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
I've been with Sky for 12 months today. I have Sky HD, Broadband and Sky Sports and Sky Movies. Currently paying £70/mth. I rang them up last night, and I was only offered a reduction of £12/mth - bringing it to £58/mth - do you think this is Ok? I did mention the V-word also.0

If you've had your kit for more than a year, you are out of contract and can do what you like. Remember, Sky, Freesat and Freesat from Sky all come from the same dish. You probably have a quad LNB on your dish with two cables coming from it to your Sky HD Box.
Option 1: use the two spare LNB outlets for a new Freesat box
Option 2: change the LNB for an octo (eight way) one. This will give you three pairs of spare outlets!
If you are up to it, this can be DIY. Otherwise, get the retailer of the new Freesat box to organise it. It should not be more than £100 plus cost of parts and the Freesat box(es). More than worth it for family peace0 -
I cancelled my Sky subscription a couple of weeks ago. Mainly due to cost. I was not offered any deals at all. Anyway at the moment i cannot afford my own PVR, so i called Sky and asked for the recording to be put back on, thinking i would be charged £10 a month for the privelage, but no i was told it was free. Happy days then.0
