People who 'panic' and revoke the cancellation will have this flagged on their account for next time.
At the end of the day its just TV so if it goes off its not the end of the world despite what people might think0 -

Just over a week to my cut off date and I have missed inadvertently several calls from sky in the first couple of weeks but nothing since.
Wondering if anyone has responded to the customer feedback email of why I'm leaving sky?0 -
Just an update from my query above. My main thoughts for wanting to cancel was the lack of a special offer on sports for the summer as I've had on previous years. Anyway, a £20pm sports and movies combined offer has turned up on my page this morning, not as good as previous years but it's still a £2 saving per month over sports alone. I also seem to be mainly watching freeview channels so it works out pricey all round.
I got on the live chat this morning about my phone and broadband to try and upgrade to unlimited and whilst they offered me a deal it was still a bit more expensive than simply broadband on talk talk and was also tied into a 12 month contract where if I cancelled the tv in this time I would lose the line rental discount. I passed on this.
I then asked if they had any tv offers and they said they can't offer those in addition to the line rental?! Anyway, I'm off to talk talk and can hopefully negotiate something on the tv after the cricket season.
This money saving lark is exhausting
Edited to add that they thanked me twice for my 11 years of loyalty, hmm! - Just because I love this emoticon!0 -
Been on a 50% off TV for the past 8 months. Have 1 more month to go on this deal. Has anyone had back to back offers? If so how do you get them? I went through with cancellation last year and got the offer about a week before I was due to be disconnected. Do I ring to cancel now? Or wait til nearer the end of deal?0

(unless "other" means are employed;))
Quite agree you would not want miss the end of Game of Thrones.
Simply do your sums so when you call the cut off date if after it finishes. :beer:0 -

i have had 2 50% 12 months deals. I am cancelling again and will not be back unless i get a third. if i get one great if not i will be going elsewhere. simple as that.
I have Netflix and can easliy obtain Now TV or BT vision so not fussed either way.
I simply called up to cancel around a month out from the end of my first deal and was offered another 50% deal.
i do not expect the same this year but i saved up a bunch of Netflix series to watch when (if) i get cut off.
It all comes down Maths. Sky know that of so many long time customers X amount who threaten to cancel come back or pull out. Hence no offers for them.
They also know that of so many who have cancelled and came back before X amount will not come back or move to other providers (no more money for Sky) if they do not offer up a good deal to stay before cut off. hence they are the ones who get phone call near cut off or deals offered off the bat.
Sky know this because Sky has collected the data over many many years and many many customers.
At the end of the day Sky are not obliged to offer you any discount if they do not want to the same way you are not obliged to keep subscribing if the price is not right for you.0 -

My top tips are these- The people you will get through to on the phone when cancelling cannot offer you something that the is not already on your account. It is pointless demanding a deal they cannot grant you
Hi your points are really good but if I may add my experience which contradicts your comment above. I was on a 50% deal for a year from Sky last year. Just the Variety pack I seem to recall. As this was coming to the end I phoned to disconnect. To my surprise they just said ok and didn't offer anything. Then a couple of weeks later, the phone call. They asked me why I was leaving, I replied due to the expense and I usually watched channels I could get for nothing on Freeview anyhow. They offered me 50% off Sky TV Variety pack for six months. I said no. Then (and I'm not making this up) offered me all of everything Sky, free, for six months. So Sky Movies, Sport, the lot. Not HD though, I didn't want to risk asking for more.
So in my experience you can get something offered that was above the original package you had when you disconnected. Basically it depends on how much they want to keep you; which is really dependent on when they have to count their subscriber numbers as part of the financial reports I'd say.0 -

I think your expericance is what i am trying to highlight. The people you get through to when you call to cancel cannot offer you something not on your account.
The people that call you when you have or going to cancel can offer you things but i doubt they would be calling in the first place unless they had some bargaining chips. they may offer their best deal straight away or you might have to hold your nerve. That the gamble and remember Sky is very very good at this game.
It is the initial contact people that have no discretion. If there is offer for 6 months free on your account then they can offer that and probably will if you want to cancel. But if no offer is on your account there is no point spouting "X years loyality" or "put me through to your manager" to them. just cancel "politely" and see what happens.
Sky will contact you one way or another when they are ready to give you an offer (or not of course). Until then there is no point calling back or getting shirty with the people who answer the phone on the cancellations department.
That is the gamble. There is no guarantee of any offer whatever your circumstances so if you cancel be prepared to have to go without sky for at least 12 months (when you then be classed as a new customer and can have those deals) or come back as full price customer.0
