Sky, Virgin & BT TV Haggle down prices and get serious discounts Article Discussion

My Sky tv went off Sunday morning, after 30 days notice. Banner came up on mysky offering 50% off almost immediately after switch off. Agreed to the 50% off full package Including Hd.
Was offered 35%off during notice period, but rejected that.
Now on 4th continuous year of half price.
Mind you, that's all it's worth imho.0 -
We have been with Sky since 1988, but are moving to a house without a Sky dish or BT line. Only Virgin fitted.
We will switch our BB and phone to Virgin, obviously, as it will offer a far better BB speed than even an ordinary BT line (or that line via Sky) ever could.
But we are unsure about TV. Virgin offer a great deal if you take everything through them - basically £50 pm for all we have now, with far better BB, anytime calls, all sports and movies, multiroom, HD and the free BT Sports/ESPN we lose without BT or if we went all Sky.
It is a bit of an unknown as TIVO boxes may/may not be better than the old Sky HD boxes we have now for PQ etc. They have miles more storage than our 5 year old Sky boxes do. But we like the simplicity and PQ and catch up of Sky for TV so would likely stay if the price was right. But paying more to keep what we have now (plus paying for BT Sports on top) seems daft.
So do I call Sky and say the above and see what they offer? Or do I take a deal already offered to my mum (coming with me) who could sign up as a new customer at the new address and get everything via Sky for 50% for a year? Plus, of course, new better, bigger hdd Sky boxes than we have now.
We can do that now as it will be a new area, different name and different account - but it seems a shame not to be able to count on some sort of loyalty deal from Sky if we just play it the honest route.
Plus, if I call them for that, doing so might prevent the new customer deal route if we have to tell them where we are going.
Seems really daft that to get the best deals appears to involve a degree of dishonesty whilst being straight might jeopardise that.
Hence our dilemma.0 -

That's a great deal. Have you got a link for it? Seems remarkably cheap.0 -
All bill are in his name but not paid a penny into account since Jan, I do not work cannot get a job on strong antidepressants because of all this.
Have rung Sky explained the situation but still will not cancel for me.
Sky is out of contract has been for years
If there are other companies that are not being paid, have you called them up to explain the situation?0 -
I would speak to citizens advice or similar and ask them where to go from here as 5 months is a long time with no bills being paid.

I checked the website and the only Virgin package with inclusive calls is VIP at £50/month, but only for 6 months, after which it soars to £104.45 and neither includes line rental, which is an extra £15.99/month.0 -

This is what I saw as well. So not the great deal that it seems at first glance then and, at the full price, not really any better than a standard Sky offer (I costed it up as £123 compared to £122 with Virgin). Thought it was too good to be true at £50 all in!
Jaycee Dove, I'd definitely be getting in touch with Sky to see what you can negotiate as you're out of your minimum term. If all else fails, as you said, your mum could sign up with Sky as a new customer at your new address. The usual half price offers, combined with TCB/Quidco cashback will make it much cheaper than Virgin.
Good luck.0 -
Hey all, about to move house so after seeing the recent new customer offer for 50% off all bundles but being a sky customer for 14 years i thought id follow some advice on here for a deal. First call in they offered either 3 months half price movies/sports or 8 months 20% off or a new 12 month contract but half price movies/sports for that duration. None added to the near £500 savings for cancelling and starting again. Said id think about it. Called back the next day saying ive found better deals but they could not offer better and put through to a cancellation man. He spent 20 mins talking waffle about his fave shows then went through the end of service info. This was last fri/sat.
Tonight I get a call from someone else asking why I was leaving. Said I could get your services for half price as a new customer but not as a loyal customer. If he would match it, I'd stay and not start again. He starting going on about getting some other kind of loyalty discounts that I had never heard of or can find on "mysky" log in. I suggested these loyalty discounts be better advertised so I could take advantage of them but then he hung up! Awesome eh?
I don't take their broadband services or phone as it's just a resold BT deal and have heard horror stories if you get serious issues of who blames who.
Anyone else know of these amazing "loyalty" deals you can get that are better than simply starting again as a new customer?0 -

Some people further back in this thread have reported 75% off the TV package, but they seem to be ones that have let the service cease for a while. 50% seems to be the norm unless you get cut off for a while.0
