I tried Sky also to see if they could offer anything to retain my custom after 25 years with them and moving into a Virgin only house. They thanked me over and over for such long term loyalty and stressed they do reward such things....then offered to change one of my two old, struggling boxes with one new one. No deal beyond that.

Virgin as a new customer offer over 50% off for 6 months plus a £100 discount. Sky as a new customer = 50% off for a year. Sky as a quarter century loyal customer = replace one of two duff boxes.

No doubt after I cancel I will get all kinds of offers to come back but I am not going to hang around waiting for that.

And it is sad that in modern society you get nowt for being open and honest and proving loyalty. But play the system and you get massive discounts.

Somehow that does not make me feel good about the way the world is heading.

So I cancelled after not being offered anything by retentions, got a ring back for 30% off but wanted to see if they'd call again offering more.

The service has now been cut off, not received a call and in the 'offers' section, I have the message saying:

    ''Unable to proceed

Your session has timed out. Please try again. If you are still unable to view your exclusive offers online, please call 08442 411 818.''

Any ideas on my next move? Its much harder living without sky and sky+ than i thought!!

I left Sky at the end of last year, but the 31 day notice period took me into January.

In February they offered me 50% off for 12 months, not contracted either.

March & April, 25% off for 12 months but a 12 month commitment.

May, 50% off for 12 months and SkyGO Extra free for 6 months. I wonder what June will bring? :)

Sit tight, the offers will land soon :)

Finally got a call back from Skys retention team, the guy initially offered me a 35% discount which I refused, stating that last time I got a 50% discount and a free Sky+ HD box. He went to 'speak to his manager' and came back with an offer of sports, movies, multiroom and HD for £37 a month, I'm happy with this so I accepted

Out of interest, what is the min term you have to be disconnected from Virgin to be considered a new customer, is it 12 months the same as sky?

Now that I am out of my min sky term and Virgin are offering good deals at the moment I could simply switch between them each 'year'* to get the new customer offers.

*18 month min term for Virgin.

right, re-newal deal i was offered Thursday evening:

sky family pack, HD, Sky+, catchup, line rental, broadband, free anytime calls for 12 months, all for £35 based on a 12 month contract.

Normal price for the whole lot would be £60 or thereabouts.

Will I be able to better this?

    Hi
I'm currently a sky customer and great haggler but moving home to one already connected to Virgin. I'm seriously considering virgin as sky want 25 quid to install a new dish and then can only give a rubbish bb speed.
I don't move til mid June however I'm interested in the current virgin VIP deals. Can I order these before the end of the month to be connected in June? Or will there be a just as good offer on in June?

I really don't know where Sky get their prices from. I'm sure they just make up a figure and stick with it.

Anyway, our story is our contract was up this week so we called and was adamant on cancelling (like we do every year) hoping to get a deal. So far we've never not got a good deal.

We was on £44 a month for the whole of everything. Sports, Movies, Multiroom, Family annd all in HD with the Sky + HD boxes. 1 in the living room, the other in the bedroom.

We eventually got through to retentions and asked us why we wanted to leave (bearing in mind our new deal would have cost £90+ per month0 and stated that it was far to expensive. He said what price would you like to be paying for the services we have. Basically...name your price.

I told him if he kept us on the same deal of £44 a month for everything we'd stay. Sure enough and without much haggling we've now got a new 12 month contract for £44 for everything.

    Same again next year.

Holding firm is now your only option if you want a good deal. If you now go back begging for an offer they will know you cannot do without Sky and give them the power. They will know the next time you try this that you crack when cut off and are likely to pay full or close to full price.

Hold tight and see what lands in the mail in the next few weeks. i do not know what your circumstances are but if you were before their dream customer who has payed full price for a number of years they are not about to let you become a haggling customer without testing your resolve and seeing if you call them asking to be reconnected.

I have said it before if your are going to use the threaten to cancel card to obtain a discount you have to be prepared to go through with it, and live without Sky for a while and make Sky blink first in offering a decent 50% off offer.

Pulling out of the cancellation, calling them up near cut off or just after cut off shows you are a bluffer, who can be played games with in any future scerarios.

I have no doubt at all that Sky monitor this forum so please keep any details that might ID you (cut off date and length of time you have been with them) out of posts.

As for me and Sky it is simple. They can have some money (50% discount) or no money. If i get cut off with no offers , so be it, there are plenty of other content providers out there now.

Still no offers from Sky, so went to online chat & chose account & billing he confirmed it gets cutt off tomm and there are no offers on account , I said Ive been with Sky 15 years , he replied they can't give any offers at accounts & billing but will make a flag on the account to be contacted for an offer.. so have to wait and see, I wonder what dept others here went to to get an offer via online chat?
As we are away for half term maybe it's best I leave it, but shame all our series links will be gone. We still have Bb and phone rental with Sky though so maybe that's why we have no offers are others here canceling everything?
