I've been switched off for a couple of months now, I've had the 30% off offer! four or five 50% offs and said onto all of them before.

Got called last week and offered 50% off again, refused and was offered the 75%. Said yes, went through the process only to be told after about five mins that as I was still signed up to sky broadband and talk the system would not allow me to get the 75% offer!

He then had the cheek to offer me the same 50% offer that I said no to at the start of the conversation!

Shall be phoning up tomorrow to see if I can get the 75% offer, if not I'm moving broadband and talk to primus or bt

Jingle Bells batman smells. Sky are in a good mood today as one of the operators was singing cheeky songs (And swearing about his f###ing presents) in the background. Did not worry me one bit as also in festive mood.
However the outbound caller from the "win back team" who was doing some work got me out of my 1 month cold turkey.
Don't know if it helped or not but before any offer I told him previous price was too high. I currently have option to watch sky via youview monthly if I want, and that I was watching sky nudge nundge via a relatives sky go extra facility on my ipad.
Opening offer straight in a 75% discount for a year with no contract.
He sensed I was still not biting and promptyly (Without checking or silence) offered £100 credit to the account.
This meant a monthly charge for entertainment with movies and sport for £14.25 a month x 12 = £171 minus £100 credit.
Or in effect less than £6 a month for the works !!!
I could not get a discount for either of my 2 multirooms but requested one of them to be switched back on. This then also gives me the sky go extra at free instead of £5.
He was a very open advisor and bluntly told me in a year to do the same again as the rise in price would just be "that much".
    Hang in there folks.

For interest he also stated even doing his job the amount of knock backs he gets is very high. People really must be switching off for financial reasons in their droves and not going back even with huge discounts.

    One tip I would give.
Don't lie to say you have gone with another provider. When I questioned him it was apparent that "marketing calls" would cease until a point where your new providers contract was up.
  • I finally fully cancelled my service today, I didn't want a deal from Sky as I'm happy with what I've got from TalkTalk for exactly the same stuff. It didn't stop him trying to cut a deal with me though to stay, he couldn't quite get the pricing to match what I have with TalkTalk as Sky aren't available in my exchange, but he was going far in excess of 50% trying to get me to stay and got the package down to £17 including 1 multi room with HD, Sky Entertainment Extra. That was still £2 more than what I pay TalkTalk for my Sky TV Boosts and with having multiple Youview boxes, I've already got a multi room solution.

He did sound very downbeat about not being able to change my mind :D

It was today the first day after the end of my SKY digital tv package (ent+, movies and sport).

After previous conversations with several SKY operators who told me new offers would be available to me today, I was surprised when I phoned sky earlier on this morning to hear I was actually phoning too early and that I should wait 2 or 3 days before any possible offers...

Obviously sky is trying to keep me the longer they can on full price.

I told the guy I wanted to cancel anyway today. After explaining I did find the subscription expensive for the amount of time my family and me were spending in front of the tv, he did not try to come up with any offer, just the usual blah blah of what I would be losing by leaving SKY...

Now it is a wait and see game. I will keep you posted regarding any call offer. I am not too bothered if this does not happen, but would probably say yes to another 12 months @ 50% discount for full tv package...

Why would "new offers" become available just because your minimum term has ended? You need to cancel your services (and mean it) before any such retention deals will be offered to you.
If, as it sounds, you've only been with them a year and you already want to cancel then you can expect Sky to let you and only ever offer the minimum discount to retain your custom.

Yes, best to expect nothing-then you won't be disappointed.

    Moneyineptitude,

I was told by several sky operators in the last month that they could not offer me anything because my 12 month SKY digital subscription was still on-going (only for a few days though).
Discount offers would potentially be available once the contract had ended - today as stands.

So I have cancelled today the tv package. I mean business!

Yes, I have been with Sky only for a year, so we will see in the next few weeks if they want me back as a customer on tv digital.

The point is that offers don't become "available" just because you come to the end of the 12 month minimum term. Sky are under no obligation to offer you anything to encourage you to stay and asking "several Sky operators" means diddly squat because none of them will have been staff who are authorised to give you retention deals.
It's only now that you have tendered your one month notice that Sky even know that you intend to cancel.

Do not be tempted to ring Sky seeking any offers, since this will simply reveal to them that you are not serious about your cancellation. Also, don't expect any "deals" to be forthcoming during your notice period, they will only come once your TV service actually ends.
