  • Looks like that Virgin Media deal with £100 off and Netflix has expired now. Am hoping something similar comes up after Dec 31st when my Sky goes off!

I'm thinking about joining BT, can't afford Virgin and can't get a Sky dish installed in my house. Has anyone had any luck in haggling with BT?
Yeah they offer deals like any other telecommunications company. I have Unlimited BT Infinity 2 (80/20 Mbps), BT Sport HD, and free evening & weekend calls for £17.25pm. Normal price would be £29pm.

They really sting you on the line rental though. Even the discount yearly price is equivalent to £11.75pm! I'm gonna try to get that reduced when my deal expires next summer.

How did you get that deal? When I phoned, and said it was more than I was looking to spend, then said fine!

I was initially paying £26pm for Unlimited BT Infinity 1 (40/10 Mbps), then they started offering free upgrades to Unlimited BT Infinity 2 (80/20 Mbps), which only required a 12 month contract. I had 11 months left anyway so it was a no-brainer for me to upgrade.

When that contract was near expiry, I told them that I could get the same FTTC product from elsewhere for £20pm (TalkTalk maybe), so they offered me that discount to stay. Since then they've offered BT Sport HD free to customers who signed up before 01/08/2013 and had a 12+ month contract, which I did. It wasn't all lovely jubbly though since I had to pay for a line to be installed when I moved home in order to keep my discount and contract length. :(

They've told me more than once that I do not have to get line rental from BT to continue getting BT Infinity (although obviously it needs to be a "BT line" so I can't go with Virgin Media), so I plan to use that leverage to get a line rental discount next time around.

My advice is to find other deals for new customers from other companies and try to get them to at least match it.

After cancelling sky three weeks ago I got a mailshot with one week to cancellation date offering 50%. the thing is ive seen others getting 75% in here wondering how I can extract the best deal. I am waiting for the phone call follow up and reason along the lines of talktalk are offering a new youview box at 7.50 gbp and my sky box is old. I want to extract a new box out of sky my box is 4 year old. I would take 50% and new box.

The cheap youview doesn't record tv.

I was offered 35% off a few days after cancellation and I also have had the letter offering the 50% off as I have one week to cancellation, and I have until the 24th December to take this offer.

I'm going to wait and see if I get a phone call after cut off offering the 75% off.. although if it is to come i'd expect it next year judging by some of the comments on here..

Cancelled Sky one month ago. We have just come in from work to find it all switched off. Movies, sport, everything gone. Strange feeling. So far we have not had one phone call or one mail shot offering us a new deal. Let the wait begin. (knowing our luck we will get a new offer after Christmas)

Did you opt out of all marketing? If you did, nothing will come.

Ref opting out of marketing. I'm not sure if I opted in or out. The only correspondence I have received from Sky was a survey online to give reasons why I was quitting. If an offer comes my way I will sign up. If not, the children will have to get used to free view.
