  • Left Sky about 2 months ago. Got a call yesterday from Sky & told them we couldn't even consider coming back at the moment due to financial reasons. Also said we didn't watch much TV.
Got asked if there was any way they could help - said I didn't think so. Then was told IF we gave you everything for free for 4 months with NO contact would you consider taking.
Would be rude not to take that offer so agreed - we have everything Movies & Sport.
Hang in there if you've stopped Sky. I was told we'd be helping them out too as well as us being helped out as it helps get their advertising revenue up with more customers especially in the run up to Christmas. :)
  • I currently have broadband and telephone therefore paying line rental with Sky. I was looking to take advantage of the 50% off the Sky Sports package tomorrow. Am I entitled to this deal as I am technically a customer even though I don't possess any TV package with them currently because it says its for new customers?

If I'm not eligible how do I best go about obtaining the TV package with Sports for the least cost? Again the cash back sites aren't clear what defines a new customer.

If you have any service with Sky, you are not a new customer.

I'm in the same boat. I have broadband and line rental, but I want a tv package with the most basic channels, as long I have a Sky +HD box to record.

I was just informed by Sky, after 30 minutes of "trying to get the best deal for me", that the MSE 50% off code was not applicable to my account ( DUH, the error message said that I was not eligible) because I have broadband and Sky talk with them. However, I could have Sky HD with Sports and Movies and an upgraded entertainment package for far more than I wanted to spend:mad: The whole bait and switch trick.

When I remonstrated that I had not had Sky TV in over a year so was (IMO) a new SKY TV customer ( for TV subscription purposes) they offered me the MSE deal without the M&S vouchers. However, I was required to pay £30 for the installation and it would be credited to my account. I declined. I remembered why I ended the Sky subscription in the first place.

The problem is my online account is still set up as an existing TV customer this means new TV offers do not work. Sky could change this if they wanted but they don't. They prefer you to phone in so they can "reinstate" your TV rather than subscribe to a new package. Just semantics but it comes at a cost to the customer.

I think you need to realise that you will never be classed as a "new customer" of Sky unless you cancel ALL your services with them for a year or more.
    Sorry.
  • I just rang sky to see what they could do with my package
    Currently paying £62.50 a month
£42.50 for Entertainment extra + Movies
    £12.50 Line rental
    and £7.50 broadband

All they could offer me was Line rental reduced to £3 a month for 12 months, nothing off the TV unless i wanted to reduce the package/remove movies :(
    Make £10 a day Challenge June - £170
  • I had been meaning to ring virgin to see if I could haggle a deal for ages as all my friends seem to be doing it and getting great deals ie half price etc but never got round to it then got email from martins money tips which pushed me so rang them saying I wanted to close account as I was getting a better offer from sky I'm getting Xl tv medium broadband and phone line plus hd + multiroom 2 boxes for £70 they were very polite but said they could not match sky and offered me about £10 off and then went to great lengths to put down sky and there services so in end told them to cancel they said I had to give 30 days I said fair enough all done so I thought a couple of
F days later I missed a call from virgin then they rang again couple of days later saying they wanted me to start with virgin first they put sky down again I said I'd heard it all before after a quick chat they offerd me my same package for £48.50 for 12 months a free TiVo had box and new super hub for Internet and 30gig speed upgrade for Internet x3 what I have now plus first month free and second month half price great deal plus after 12 months I've got to ring them see if they can do anything else do don't give up if first you don't succeed as they say hope this helps
  • I called SKY twice to 'cancel' my tv (inc.sports/movies),bb,phone and they offered me £10 off per month. I accepted but I'm still not entirely happy so don't know whether to call through and actually cancel, although my husband would kill me, and hope they offer me something amazing before they disconnect us?!
  • I was lucky enough to get one of the 50% off Sky TV codes, so went ahead to see what I could get. I rang Virgin to tell them I was disconnecting and was offered nothing! When I said I would stay with them for BB I was offered it for £17.50. Said I would ring back when I had thought it through.
I ordered my Sky+, Entertainment Extra, Sky Sports & Movies for £27.75 per month.
Rang Virgin back and they offered me an immediate upgrade to 60mb on BB instead of having to wait for it, Tivo and another (3rd) box but then downgraded my TV package from XL to M, and phone line all for £46.40. Told them I didn't need a 3rd box and that I didn't want to downgrade my tv package. I was then told that it would be £51.40.
Told them that it was above my budget and it miraculously went down to £47.90. Much better than the average £65 I'm paying at the moment.
I think I'm still going to go with the Sky tv, because of Sky Sports & Movies. Keeping my BB with Virgin for £17.50 because of the speed.
But it does seem you can actually get Virgin to drop their prices if you persist. :)
