I went right through to almost placing the order stage and a box came up asking if I wanted to keep my same number so I put in yes, so looks like that would go through ok online.

The Sky estimated installation was 2 weeks but the reviews seem to suggest longer if you are waiting for BT to reactivate the line. Either way that isn't too bad, I nearly clicked 'order' but I will give Virgin a week to see what/if they offer. If they give me 3 months free I will stay but otherwise seems a no brainer to move to Sky for cheaper and better deal.

BTW, I didn't previously have a BT line in this house when I moved. Yesterday morning, BT engineer came and installed a new line and in the afternoon Sky came to install TV. My broadband worked immediately and at midnight my BT line was active so you don't have to wait any amount of time.

I didn't get the option online to transfer number and the Sky adviser informed me that they could only do that over the phone. It's probably worth placing an order and ringing Sky up immediately as they can offer deals. If they don't, just cancel the order. That way, they won't want to lose you so will most likely offer you a deal...

Sounds promising service. I am very tempted to go ahead. The previous owner here had a BT line so shouldn't be hard for them to reactivate that, I still get the extra £10 charge though to pay up front..

It's all up to Virgin now to come up with an offer!!

    So my suggestion is:

Ring sky and tell them you want to cancel all of your services because a) the tv is too expensive so you are moving to freesat or just going to use the box without subscription (might want to say the telephone is too expensive as well, but you will need to tell them who you are moving to so check who is cheaper first) and b) because of the fault on your internet that makes it so slow which they are not fixing.

I am more or less certain they will offer you something, maybe 25% off TV for a few months???

If not then hand in your notice for the TV and phone and get the MAC for your internet.... then wait.....

If you don't hear anything then you can always call them back and cancel... only problem as above is they will leave it very last minute to call you, but i'm not sure if you have to cancel the cancellation at least a certain number of days before cut off... i.e. is there a point of no return? I don;t think there is but beware.

BTW, O2 are quite cheap for broadband if you are an o2 mobile customer, if you did need to move. They also don't require you to have a landline with them so you could look at Martin's article on cheap phones (possibly Primus Saver or whatever they are called now).

Thanks for your advice! I'll certainly do that and see what happens :) Nothing to loose really :)
Goal: Win a car (or cash to buy one :))! -- Haha goal from when I was a student. Never actually won this but got a good job instead.

    What I achieved:
    Car paid in full straightaway.
    Two properties fully paid. Wohhoooo!

Be aware that as you are in a flat ,Sky MAY need a specialist team to install your dish because of height restrictions;this may delay TV install.

Thanks but should be ok I think, there is already an IRS system installed here specifically by Sky installers for the whole block.

Despite the block being cabled our money spending managing agents decided to use our money to install this even when we didn't want it. Might be useful now though!

Our SKy TV got disconnected on 16th January after they refused to offer us anything to stay when we came off a half price deal in December.

We got a letter this morning offering us half price TV for 12 months. Problem is we have got used to not having it so probably won't bother.
Hark at you going all strict :D
  • Well Sky didn't offer us any new offers when the latest 50% ended.Cut off yesterday :(

What's the advice? Phone back and ask if they can offer anything to reconnect us or hang fire and see if they phone?

We have had the letter saying you're leaving etc and also the feedback email but still nothing!

We were on the top package with HD and multi room.

When we agreed the last offer the girl also gave a new hd box for downstairs and a sky+ for upstairs free and it was agreed at the time the engineers would put one of the boxes in my daughters room at the same time.We lest the mother in law in the house as we were working and this never happened. We emailed sky and asked what was happening and got an automated email back saying they were looking into it etc but that was it and we went on holiday a few days later and it went out our minds totally! We put all this doen on the feedback email but as of yet nothing!

Any advice would be great cheers and sorry for any spelling mistakes I've got a brutal hangover

I called up to cancel as we are moving house, at present we have TV only and pay £48 a month. They offered a 25% discount for 12 months on TV along with free line rental for 12 months, 6 months free broadband and a free HD box and install.

So we would end up paying:
    £36 for TV
    £10.25 for HD
    £5 for unlimited calls
£7.50 for broadband unlimited for 6 months.

Said I would think about it but this does seem like a pretty good deal to me.
