Sky, Virgin & BT TV Haggle down prices and get serious discounts Article Discussion

I called Sky the other day and said I wanted to cancel (because my broadband was due for expiry with talk talk and I thought I could get a better deal with Virgin). They took 25% off a month for a whole year and then gave me unlimited broadband, calls and line rental for a whole 12 months on a 12 month contract for £2.50 a month. Seemed too good to be true so I took it and will see what happens.:j:j0

Virgin Media
Yet another price increase! (think there have been over five since I joined 15 months ago). So, I phoned to cancel and all they could offer was a measley £10 discount, but with the £4.10 price increase and the slow broadband, box problems, I will be moving back to Sky...
Poor service, yet again from VM.0 -
Best I could get was:
Sky TV + entertainment/Variety Pack + Sports
Broadband Unlimited for 12 months
Free E/W calls
£10 service call for my slightly ill box
Free line rental for 12 months
All for £40 a month. Which doesn't seem bad although someone earlier had 25% off for 12 months plus broadband and calls for £2.50 a month. which sounds way better :-(0 -

Got a call from Virgin today, the offer was dropping from VIP50 to
XLTV - no change
XL phone - no change
L broadband - down from XXL
Sky Sports - losing movies
HD channels - no change
1tb Tivo, V+HD and VHD - no change
for £96 with 1 month free. Looks like i'll still be going to Sky.0 -

Yes, it was for Sky. So many options out there and I am quite willing to call it a day if no offers come prior to the cut off date.0 -

Heyy guyss
I'm just trying to help my mum sort her bills out, and realised most of the plans she has are outdated/ expensive! She currently has:
1.SKY TV on an old package (which looks equivalent to the Entertainment Extra package they currently have on their website) at~£24.90 per month. This was out of contract years ago.
2. BT Telephone - the line rental at £14.60 a month which my mum currently pays quarterly in advance, and pays £5.67 on top as a "payment processing fee"!!!! (I told her off about this!).
3. Internet with BE There - on a 12 month contract due to end shortly (first 6 months were half price at ~£7, last 6 months are full price at ~£14).
I've read the guides and lots of posts, but still slightly unsure with how to go ahead.
Mum wants SKY TV and likes her current level of package. She would like a telephone line with unlimited anytime calls. We're not too fussed about renewing the broadband as it was mainly I who used it and I have now moved out - but if we get a very good deal, we wouldn't mind having it for when myself/my siblings are around.
We don't want to move to Virgin Media.
I'm not sure whether to just try to haggle down the SKY subscription (not sure how successful this will be, after reading the posts in this thread) and put mum on a BT line rental plan for £120 for the year in advance plus £4.90 a month for unlimited calls
OR to go for something combined - with tv/telephone or tv/telephone/broadband depending on prices
Any kind advice for confused me?0 -
Ok, need advice.
I have:
Sky: 1 x TB Sky HD and a Sky Plus box. All channels, inc HB, movies but not sports. Pay £57 a month
Virgin: 50mb BB, phone with unlimited anytime.
Rang Virgin as fancy a couple of tivo boxes. Cheapest they can do an all in one package with 2 x 500mb tivo, all channels inc HD but not sports but movies, unlimited called - £106 (price after the April price increase) which is like £2 more than paying now. Oh and they want to charge me £50 for the extra tivo box. Cannot even get them to give me a discount like new customers and been with them for like 15 years.
GRRR, anyone know a good Virgin rep than can help reduce?
Otherwise I will have to stay with Sky and see if I can get a reduction as out of contract with them.0 -
Just spoke to two Customer Relations reps at Virgin Media, both were very helpful (and UK based).
My current package is £53.40 (inc paper bill/non-DD charges @ £6.50).
After quite a bit of checking, asking and encouragement, my new package will be £52.90 for three months, then £59.40, including the price increase, so once I'm on paperless/DD it will be £52.90 (less than I pay now!) after the April price increase. This includes entering into new 12 month contract.
Services have been upgraded as follows:Phone XL - Staying the sameYou need to state that you saw a current online offer for new customers (I can't post a link to the page, but it's on the VM site: shop dot virginmedia dotcom slash digital-tv slash special_offer.html), and they will agree to free TIVO with free installation/activation. The rest is up to your haggling skills and what services you have on your account.
Talk Mobile 10 (600 mobile mins) - Staying the same
BB L (10Mb) - upgraded to BB XL (20Mb) to avoid 30Mb activation fee/superhub charge
TV M with standard def Samsung box - upgraded to TV M+ with TIVO & free install/activation
All installed on Monday 27th to avoid TIVO price increase!
If it's any help to those who haven't gone through this yet, bear in mind that you're trying to get potentially more than £100 worth of hardware and services for free, so put a bit of effort into it! Take a couple of hours to read the whole thread like I did, build a package on the Sky website to compare costs, and have it all written down in front of you, along with your latest bill when you make the call. I spent nearly two hours negotiating the above deal, and am very pleased, considering our payment history has been chequered at best!0 -
Hello,
I was wondering if any of you could help me out with a question I have. I need to reduce my Sky bill and I was thinking about calling them and ask to cancel (as many people on here did) to see what they'll offer me. However, the problem is that I don't want to leave Sky and I can't be without internet because of work related reasons. So my question is, if I give the 31 days notice, can I then call them near the end of the 31 days and say that I no longer want to cancel? Would I be aloud to keep the service without any charges? If anyone know this, please let me know.
Also, I am currently paying £39.25 for TV, phone and internet. Do you think I have any chance of getting a better deal? It's unlimited internet but the connection is really awful! Please let me know if anyone managed to get something similar reduced.
Thank you!Goal: Win a car (or cash to buy one)! -- Haha goal from when I was a student. Never actually won this but got a good job instead.
What I achieved:
Car paid in full straightaway.
Two properties fully paid. Wohhoooo!0
