  • £37900 to go.
    Another £50 taken off.
Spoke to First Direct about the possibility of re-mortgaging with them to a fixed rate if necessary and I was pleased that it would only be £99 fees to remortgage, not that I plan to.
I aim during the week to have at least 3 no spending days, which is easy to achieve as I work in a school, and top up my food credit every few weeks. By the time I'm home it's time to zzzz normally, and I leave early and there's nothing to spend on at lunch time.
Roll on the weekend I say. I'm tired already.

  • 150 overpaid -
Down to £37750 now. Small steps = good progression.
Most of this is as a result of the bills I've saved (see posts on 08-01-2011 11:43 AM) - so I figured out it's best to overpay some more.

Pleased that 1/4 of a thousand pounds has been taken off. Good progression :)

  • I'm trying a simple strategy this month, where I budget each week - I pretty know much most outgoings - and at the end of each week, I clear the pot and put money into the overpay pot, hence a number of over payments. Am excited at seeing this go down at a decent rate, and am looking forward to pay day in 2 weeks time to clear some more :)
    How very sad.

  • 500 off. £37k it now stands. We have the ability to live super cheap it appears. I'm sure the speed of overpaying will slow soon, but having a wife (MOM) on board certainly helps.

  • Oh and I feel pleased, went and bought a load of toothpaste from Costco - I think it was Crest or some other "a lister" but it was on a good price 12 pack with 50% extra free, so I bought it and then realised we had nowhere to stash them all! How very short sighted of me :( But what a good price I paid!

  • we have loo rolls in the loft and tinned goods and orange juice in the garage after costco sessions. I am sure you will find somewhere.

    Great overpaying already this month.
  • My target for the end of Dec was to get the mortgage down to £20k - Currently we will reach that sooner than we anticipated, so I will set another target once that's reached -hopefully a few months earlier than Dec, to see what our next target could/should be. I like targets that are manageable as it means you get them then can set more! Better to go through 9 smaller targets and fail at the last one than fail at one big one - 90% success is better than 0% success my old maths teacher may once have said in his more lucid moments.

  • My money saving dreams are hindered by the cost of diesel! I thought I'd get through this month without filling up but £70 later and a full tank, it's rather dented my weekly pot of cash :( Might not have the ability to overpay anything this week - but will be paid next week, so there's swings and roundabouts. Also having a party this week so lots of things to buy but hey ho.

  • So, no plans to move, but we're looking at new houses, thinking of looking at the "one" for life. I'm thinking of staying where we are for at least a few years, as a) We'll hopefully be mortgage free by the end of next year and b) I think house prices will drop a bit for a few more years, therefore waiting for a few years will strengthen our cards. I hope!
But it's odd as I've not considered moving before and all of a sudden I keep looking! Even as far as taking my phone with zoopla app on it to see house prices/sale signs in nice areas. Weird. Can someone talk me out of this odd behaviour please?
